Was I the only one that got the impression that Starlight had better friendship chemistry with Twilight than the Mane 5? No offense to Twilightโ€™s other friends but it often seems like theyโ€™re less mature than her, take the movie for example.

No, no, I definitely felt it too. Twilight's friendships with the others feels kinda forced, like they're just friends because of the plot, but with Starlight they truly talk like equals about topics they share a mutual interest in

Absolutely, they never really fully accepted her. Especially at first. Sure they eventually became friends, but not good friends. And that's understandable considering her background, she was lucky to get friends at all.
But Twilight and Glimmer became very good friends.

I also got that impression. Something about the m6's relationships feels artificial as if they're just actors in a play. Twistar has a genuine connection of love and respect for one another, their interactions are so wholesome.

>>42277125
This. One of the rare times the m6's friendship felt real was during the train ride in the buffalo episode. I wish the m6 had more scenes like that.

You faggots have such a narrow scope of what friendship is, I swear.
>duh, they're similar and never bicker, that means they have chemistry, derp
Real friendships have tension, they have banter, they have contrast. Take Twilight and Rainbow Dash as an example. Great chemistry, yet lots of tension. See that scene in Bridle Gossip when Twilight goes on a lecture about not judging Zecora based on appearance alone, while Rainbow Dash silently apes her in the background. That's what friendship looks like.

I hate to invoke Game Grumps, since they're gay and watching them is cringe, but people who say shit like this are the same people who think Arin has better chemistry with Dan compared to Jontron.

>take the movie for example.
The rest of the mane 6 were uncharacteristically incompetent in the movie to build-up to the beach scene.
Twilight and Starlight's ""friendship"" is mostly Twilight sucking off Starlight and being uncharacteristically lenient. She got angrier at Applejack and Rarity ruining her sleepover than she got at Starlight brainwashing her best friends.

Despite "watching" (highly dubious in the first place) a show about making friends, the average anon has never had one. Your point was established back in season 1 several times.

Yeah, my close friendships have been much more comparable to for example AJ/Rarity, Twi/Pinkie, Twi/Dash, Pinkie/Dash, etc. Twilight and Glimmer is how I have interacted with my former bosses, at least the ones I have liked. More polite, less informal.

Pic related. I don't know if girls are actually like this with each other, but top right is literally me. My best friend in high school had a hot sister, and I swear she was kinda into me too.

Yeah.
Starlight makes sense cause they actually share hobbies ad interests.
When you think about it, it makes no sense why she is friends with a bunch of randoes who share different interests.

True friendships are not formed through shared interests, but through shared struggles and experiences. My friends who know I like ponies think it's weird and cringe that I get so much enjoyment out of a pony cartoon for little girls, but they're still my friends, whereas I really do not see myself bonding with your average bronycon attendee. The only horse celebs I could possibly imagine myself connecting with in real life are Greg, Jesse Wood and Max Gilardi, and that's not because we like the same show, but because I like their rizz. I could never see myself becoming close friends with someone like Joshscorcher just because we like the same show. True friendship runs far deeper than just surface-level likes and dislikes, which is kinda the whole point of the show.

kek and then you strawman OP with something he didn't even say. Tension IS good for entertainment though, that's why Startrix and Appledash have the most popular friendships.

He said they're less mature, I paraphrased by using similar as an antonym to dissimilar, keeping the meaning of the OP intact. I, on the other hand, never said friendships are ONLY about tension. Now that is a strawman.

Their friendship does feel a little weak with the elements of harmony being the main factor keeping them together like coworkers. Twilight acting as the "manager" of the group didn't help either.

However, on second thought, I was being excessively harsh and venomous towards OP. for no good reason OP, if you're still here, I apologize for the excessive vitriol against your fairly benign thread. However, I still stand by my overall point that the truest of friendships have a certain amount of tension, as conflict is an unavoidable consequence of authenticity.

If the show was real then they wouldnt be really close friends.
They would forget about each other after every battle because there wouldnt be a reason to spent time with each other.
The cutie mark crusaders are way superior.

I do think they should've spent more time just having the Mane Six hanging out together. It's good to remind the audience of what normal looks like so conflict doesn't feel like the default.

No, I was being far too sardonic and hostile right out of the gate for no reason. It's just that I'm kinda tired of the old, worn out criticism of the show that OP presented. This was pretty much the premise for The End In Friend, which is a serious contender for the worst episode in the entire series.

>>42279169
The whole point of the show is that people can be friends, not even despite differences, but rather that differences can make friendships flourish. They pretty much spell this out for the viewer from the word go in Look Before You Sleep, and this is a trend the show will continue through it's entire run. The Cutie Map, Fame And Misfortune, all these episodes are very blatant, sometimes even heavy-handed, about how their differences only make their friendships stronger. You're basically thinking like Sugar Belle in The Cutie Map.

9 seasons of the show spelling this out, and you people still don't get it. DYEWTS?
