>She looked left and right; the jungle mirrored itself through the razor-sharp edge of a thin waterfall
>Kuru should've been there already...
>Slowly crawling through the wet and thorny foliage of the jungle, Haze managed to reach the edge of a rocky formation in the middle of the dense trees.
>The waterfall continued to flow, a constant noise in the background, but a good one, amidst the cacophony of seemingly random noises of the forest.
>"Haze--"
>Finally a whisper of hope!
>Haze looked to her left and through the dark branches she was able to spot three very vibrant colors
>Red paint, almost vermilion, in a stripe across Kuru's face.
>Green and yellow -- two vibrant feathers stuck in her mane, right behind her ear.
>Those symbols, in colors more than shapes, united the two mares in battle;
>Battle against a soulless enemy. One that always found ways around their traps and shelters.
>Disgusting creatures, if you could even call that mockery of life a 'creature'. Drones mounted with all sorts of killing machines.
>Kuru approached the bush in which Haze still remained partly hidden.
>But hidden from what? They were nowhere to be seen, insisted Kuru; always hopeful, always...
>The mare grabbed Haze's hooves and dragged her out of the leafy shelter.
>"You need to rest, or else you'll go insane!" Insisted Kuru, more vehemently than before "Haze! Look at me" She squeezed the grayish cheeks of the pegasus in front of her.
>"I - am - fine." She insisted "Besides, you don't even know how to operate a gun."
>Kuruminha giggled. And for a brief amount of time, everything felt at ease.
>"I don't need to operate guns, now excuse me--" She pushed Haze to one corner of the rock formation; their shelter for the upcoming night.
>"Just... please. You've done too much already. Rest. Eat." Kuru pointed to a big fruit (which Haze had never seen before)
Kuruminha ignored the pegasus' protests and inspected the area around those rocky shards; nothing but green canopies and vines. Further ahead, wriggly rivers disappeared into the horizon.
>The sun was quickly setting, and the night dragged with it many unpleasant things.
>As Haze organized the tent, Kuru stretched the rope of her bow.
>Squinting her eyes, all framed by the red on her cheeks, she assumed her post.
>"Kuru..." Haze started--
>"Hmm?" The light-cinnamon mare said in reply.
>Haze sighed.
>"Just be careful... It'll be hard to find a replacement if you cross to the other side."
>She never missed an opportunity to tease...
>The night would likely be calm, but the next day...
>Better not think about it yet, Haze concluded
>No, not too many thoughts, please.
>Not after all that happened.
