You're very welcome! The responses and feedback I get from the updates I post make writing greentexts very rewarding. I know I should write for myself first and foremost, but I can't deny wanting to be told I did a good job.
I'm really grateful for all of you guys, keep rocking on.

The smell of something warm and toasty drifted through the air, nudging you from sleep before the sunlight even had a chance. Your eyes cracked open slowly, greeted by the soft golden glow spilling in through your bedroom window. For a few seconds, you let yourself stay nestled beneath the blanket, not quite ready to face what today was.

Your first day… at the forge.

You let out a sigh and stared up at the wooden ceiling, ears twitching at the faint clinks of pottery in the kitchen. The sounds of breakfast being made.

Rain Shine must already be up.

Dragging yourself from the bed took more effort than it should’ve. You ran a brush through your messy mane and washed your face, trying to ignore the pit in your stomach. You’d faced scary things before, severe memory loss, magical fire, even Emberforge’s shouting, but this felt different. This was going to be every day now.

And Emberforge… wasn’t exactly friendly.

When you finally padded into the kitchen, Rain Shine was already setting out two small plates. She looked up with a warm smile.

“Good morning, my little kirin. Slept well?”

You gave her a tired nod, easing yourself onto the floor pillow across from her. “Yeah. Sort of.”

She passed you a small plate of honeyed bread and a bowl of stewed fruit. “Eat up. You’ll need your strength.”

You nibbled quietly for a few moments, your thoughts swirling too fast to hold down. Rain Shine, of course, noticed.

“You’re quiet,” she said gently, pouring you some tea. “Is it the forge?”

You hesitated, ears folding back. “...Yeah.”

Rain Shine didn’t respond right away. Instead, she scooted closer and gently touched your hoof with hers. “It’s alright to feel nervous, Anon. Emberforge is… a difficult kirin, even on his best days. But you’re not alone in this.”

“I just…” You stared down at your tea. “I don’t want to mess up. Or make him hate me even more.”

Rain Shine chuckled softly. “If Emberforge didn’t grumble about something, I’d think he was ill.”

You smiled faintly, the tension in your chest easing just a little.

Just then, a knock tapped at the front door.

Rain Shine rose gracefully. “That’ll be Autumn.”

Sure enough, a few seconds later, Autumn Blaze peeked into the kitchen with a bright smile on her face. “Rise and shine, blacksmith-in-training!”

You blinked. “You’re walking me to the forge?”

“Of course!” she beamed, bouncing slightly. “I wanted to see if you survived your last night of freedom.”

Rain Shine hid a smirk behind her tea. “Don’t let him scare you too much, Anon.”

You stood, slipping the small lunch Rain Shine had packed for you onto your back. Your hooves felt a little heavier than usual, but… with Autumn here, and Rain Shine’s gentle smile behind you, you felt just a little more steady.

“All right,” you muttered. “Let’s get this over with.”

The walk through the village was quiet.

Well, it could’ve been quiet if Autumn Blaze wasn’t walking beside you.

“Just remember,” she said, trotting ahead and spinning around to walk backward, “if he yells at you, it’s not because he hates you. He yells at everything. Emberforge once yelled at a tree for growing too close to his chimney. I’m not even joking.”

You gave her a look.

“What? It was a fire hazard.”

Despite your nerves, a laugh snuck out of your mouth. Autumn grinned, clearly proud of herself.

You rounded a bend in the path, and there it was, Emberforge’s workshop.

It was nestled close to a small river at the edge of the village, built from dark stone and reinforced wood. The roof was covered in thick, clay tiles, and a tall chimney puffed out lazy coils of smoke. You could feel the warmth from the forge even before stepping inside.

The heavy wooden door let out a groan as Autumn pushed it open for you.

You didn’t know what to expect when you stepped into the forge, but it certainly wasn’t this.

From the outside, it had looked like a modest stone-and-timber workshop, with dark wooden walls and a tall chimney puffing lazy smoke into the sky. You’d imagined soot, clutter, and the scent of scorched metal hanging in the air.

Instead, you found a masterpiece of order.

Your hooves clicked softly against a spotless stone floor. The entire space was pristine. No dust, no disarray. Every tool hung with precision, rows of hammers sorted by size, polished tongs and chisels aligned like soldiers. A freshly oiled workbench caught the light, and even a potted plant sat on the windowsill, quietly thriving.

And then there was the wall.

You drifted toward it, eyes wide. Displayed like a museum exhibit was a mural of forged creations. swords and spears gleaming with folded steel, armor etched with intricate Kirin motifs. Sculptures of animals, spirals, and stars adorned the shelves. A bronze feather wind chime swayed gently, chiming with a delicate metallic hush.

“Whoa…” you breathed.

Autumn stepped up beside you with a knowing smile. “Right? Emberforge may be a jerk, but he’s crazy talented.”

But even that didn’t compare to the heart of the forge.

At the far end stood the hearth, crafted from black stone and built with perfect symmetry. Within it, flames danced not in reds or oranges, but in radiant Nirik colors. Deep blues, vivid purples, and veins of soft rose-pink that flickered like silk in the wind. It pulsed with quiet life. It wasn’t just heat, it was magic.

You stepped closer, caught in its glow.

“It’s beautiful…” you whispered.

“At least the colt can recognize craftsmanship. That’s a start.”

You turned with a start to find him standing near the side doorway, Emberforge.

Tall, broad-shouldered, with a coat the color of burning coals and a mane like pale straw, Emberforge looked like a walking furnace. A thick leather apron hung over one side, His expression was as hard as the steel he worked with, and those sharp blue eyes scanned you like a tool he wasn’t sure belonged in his shop.

Autumn subtly edged behind you.

Emberforge’s gaze lingered on her for a second, then returned to you. “Don’t just stand there gawking. If you’re going to waste my time, do it on your hooves, not with your jaw hanging open.”

You stiffened. “Y-Yeah, okay.”

“Late.” He grumbled

Your ears flicked back. “What? But the sun just came up-”

“I didn’t say you were,” he said bluntly. “Just checking if you’d fluster easy.”

You stared at him. Seriously?

Autumn looked like she was trying not to laugh behind you.

Emberforge sighed and strode toward the main anvil. “Let’s make one thing clear. I didn’t ask for an apprentice. I don’t want an apprentice. But the elders think I need ‘perspective,’ and Rain Shine thinks you need ‘structure.’ So here we are.”

You lowered your gaze and your ears slightly.

He slung the apron over his chest and fastened the straps with practiced ease. “While you’re in my forge, you do what I say. Clean what I tell you to clean. Don’t touch what you’re not allowed to touch. You work. You sweat. You learn. Understood?”

“…Yes, sir.”

For a moment, you thought you saw the tiniest flicker of approval in his eyes.

“Good. First job, sweep the floor. Thoroughly.”

Autumn leaned in and whispered, “See? Not so bad.”

You gave her a look. She just winked and slipped out the door, leaving you alone with the walking volcano and the enchanted fire still pulsing behind you.

You grabbed a broom from the corner and began sweeping.

But every now and then, your eyes drifted back to that wall of forged creations.

And despite the nerves, the pressure, and the heat of Emberforge’s stare, a quiet thought settled into your chest.

What would it feel like… to make something that good?

Your apprenticeship had begun.

You stood stiffly beside the main anvil as Emberforge paced around the forge like a storm cloud waiting to break.

“Alright,” he grunted, nudging a small pile of dull, reddish metal ingots with a hoof. “We’re not starting with swords, spears, or anything flashy. You’re going to make nails.”

“…Nails?” you asked, blinking.

Emberforge stopped mid-step, slowly turning his head toward you with a look like you’d just asked if the sky was made of cheese.

“Yes. Nails. You think I trust a foal with a blade on day one? Nails teach control. Shape. Heat judgment. If you can’t make a nail that doesn’t snap in half, you’ll never make anything else worth using.”

You gulped and nodded. “Okay.”

He wordlessly lit the forge brighter, the blue and purple flames flaring to life with a hum that tickled your horn. Emberforge guided you through the steps at first. Tongs, heat, hammer, quench. The metal glowed a brilliant orange as you tried to hold it steady on the anvil, your magic wobbly as you raised the hammer in your magic.

Bang. Missed.

Bang. Crooked.

Bang. You hit the tongs.

“Stop, STOP!” Emberforge snapped, his voice cutting through the crackling fire like thunder. “You’re not shaping a flower petal, colt! This is metal! You shape it! You command it!”

You flinched, ears folding back as you tried again, your magic trembling as the hammer floated into place.

Bang.

The metal piece slipped off the anvil entirely and clattered to the floor.

Emberforge’s teeth clenched. “By the ancestors, it’s like watching a duck try to hold a chisel with its beak! You’re wasting metal! You’re wasting time! My time!”

The shame hit you hard. You stood frozen, staring at the glowing metal on the floor, chest tight.

Why did I even think I could do this?

He hates me. I’m useless here.

I’m just some dumb little stray, getting in the way again…

You felt the spark then. Deep in your chest.

A hot little flicker.

It wasn’t fire, but it was close. The kindling of a flame you’d felt once before.

Your heart beat faster. The hammer in your magical grip twitched. Your breath caught in your throat.

No.

You closed your eyes, breathing in deep.

In. Out.

Again.

In… Out…

You remembered Rain Shine’s voice, soft and firm “Breathe before you act on your anger.”

You loosened your grip on the hammer. The spark faded, still there, but quiet again.

You opened your eyes and slowly bent down to pick up the dropped nail blank.

“…Sorry,” you said softly. “I’ll try again.”

Emberforge was silent.

You expected another barked order, or some insult.

Instead, he just gave a grunt and turned away. “…Don’t waste the next one.”

You stared at the metal glowing in the firelight.

You wouldn’t.

Not because of weight, but pressure. The pressure to get it right. To prove something. To yourself… maybe to Emberforge. Maybe to everyone.

You focused on your breathing.

In. Out. In… out.

The heat from the forge wrapped around you like a thick blanket. Sweat clung to your fur. You adjusted the tongs, lifted the glowing metal, and placed it on the anvil with careful magic.

Your grip was steadier this time. No wobble. No sudden jolt of nerves. You raised the hammer.

A decent hit.

Bit by bit, the nail took shape. It wasn’t perfect. But it wasn’t bent in three directions, either. The head wasn’t lopsided. The point wasn’t twisted.

It looked… okay.

You lifted it off the anvil and turned to Emberforge, unsure what to expect. His face was unreadable as he trotted over, squinting at the still warm nail floating in your aura.

He didn’t say anything for a moment.

Then, with a grunt “Looks like something that could actually hold wood together.”

You blinked. “Wait… is that a good thing?”

He narrowed his eyes. “Did I say it was good?”

You opened your mouth to answer but paused. Was this… was this his way of saying you did okay?

Emberforge turned away, heading toward the tool wall, mumbling something under his breath. You weren’t sure, but you thought you heard.

“…Not bad.”

A tiny flicker of pride warmed your chest.

He didn’t say he liked you being here. Didn’t say you belonged.

But he didn’t yell.

For the first time since you’d stepped into the forge, the silence between you didn’t feel sharp. Just… quiet.

You set the finished nail down gently, lining it up beside the messier ones you’d made earlier. Emberforge didn’t look at you, but he didn’t send you away either.

You could work with this.

Your shoulders ached. Your forehooves were sore from gripping the tongs. You were sweating through your coat despite the protective apron Emberfore had given you. The heat of the forge pressed in around you, the glow of the flames dancing across the walls.

You let out a quiet breath and stepped back from the anvil. The tension between you and Emberforge hadn’t gone away, but it had settled into something less volatile. Still uneasy, still sharp, but not explosive.

Then Emberforge looked you over and gave a snort. “You’re slowing down. Take a break. Somewhere away from me.”

You didn’t need to be told twice.

Grabbing the lunch Rain Shine had packed for you trotted out the back of the forge and found a shady patch beneath a wide, mossy tree. You dropped onto the soft grass with a tired groan, feeling the cool air kiss your sweat dampened fur.

You unwrapped your lunch and took a bite. It was refreshing and familiar, Rain Shine always knew exactly what would help settle your nerves. You let yourself breathe. Just for a moment.

“Hey, blacksmith colt!”

You turned your head just as Autumn Blaze trotted into view, a bright grin on her face and a little cloth wrapped bundle balanced on her back.

“Brought you something sweet,” she said with a wink. “For emotional support. And maybe because I wanted an excuse to come see you.”

She plopped down beside you and unwrapped the bundle, a honey-drenched fruit bun, sticky and still warm. You both took bites, chewing in content silence.

“So,” Autumn said between mouthfuls, “how’s the grumpiest Kirin in the village treating you?”

You snorted. “He yelled so loud earlier I think the entire village heard it. I was just trying to make one stupid nail.”

She nudged you with a hoof. “And did you make one?”

You hesitated. “Kinda.”

“That’s something!” she declared dramatically, tossing a hoof in the air like she was giving a speech. “Kirin history will forever remember you as, Anon the Slightly Adequate Nail Maker!”

You couldn’t help but laugh. A real, full laugh that made your sore muscles ache in a good way.

But then she reached over and tapped your leg gently. “You’re bleeding.”

You looked down. A small cut near your hoof was present. You winced. “Huh.. Guess I didn’t notice. Looks like I forged a little of myself.”

Autumn pulled something out of her saddlebag, one of the small cloths that was wrapped around the fruit bun. “Hold still, tough guy.”

She gently wrapped the injury, her touch careful but a little playful. “You know, you’re kinda like a nail yourself.”

“Banged up, heated under pressure, still holding it together.” She smiled. “Pretty impressive, if you ask me.”

Your cheeks flushed slightly as you mumbled, “Thanks, but I'm not so sure about that.”

“Oh, come on, it’s adorable,” she said with a wink. “Suffering builds character.”

You narrowed your eyes at her, and she just grinned.

The sun filtered through the leaves above, the forge’s smoke barely visible in the distance behind you. For the first time all day, your body finally relaxed.

You looked at her and said, “It’s hard. But… I’m trying.”

She gave your shoulder a gentle nudge. “I know. And you’re doing great.”

You smiled. Not because you believed it completely, but because it helped to hear.

And because she meant it.

The two of you sat together in the shade for a little while longer, the scent of the sweet bun and the warm breeze rustling the trees overhead. And for a moment, the forge didn’t seem so terrible anymore.

The heat hit you as soon as you stepped back into the forge. The roar of the nirik flame was ever-present, its glow still dancing off the polished tools and dark stone walls. But the main workspace was strangely quiet.

You blinked.

Emberforge wasn’t at his usual station.

You glanced around, ears twitching. Maybe he’d stepped into another room, or maybe he was trying to give you space. You weren’t sure which was more surprising.

With no one barking at you to "hurry up and hammer something," you let yourself wander. Just a little.

You stepped carefully around the anvils and workbenches, glancing again at the wall with all the finished metalwork. There was something so different about seeing it now. Before, it had seemed like some distant collection of trophies, but now, after actually trying your hoof at the forge, each curve and notch of those weapons, armor pieces, and delicate tools told a story. A story made from sweat, heat, and effort.

Your eyes lingered on a particularly fine set of knifes. You wondered, not for the first time, if you’d ever get good enough to make something like that. And for once… the idea didn’t seem impossible.

You smiled faintly, then your eyes caught something you hadn’t noticed before. On a nearby worktable, slightly tucked behind a half-finished helmet, sat a small, framed photograph.

You trotted over, curiosity tugging you like a magnet.

The photo was old, the edges a little curled. In it stood a much younger Emberforge, undeniably him, scowl and all, with another kirin stallion beside him. The older stallion was taller, broader, with the same sharp cheekbones and those same piercing blue eyes. But there was no joy in the image. No smiles. Just two kirin standing side by side, stiff and grim, like they’d only taken the picture because someone made them.

You frowned. Is that his father?

Before you could lean in further, the photo was suddenly wrapped in a shimmer of pale blue magic. You jumped as it was yanked from your hooves and floated swiftly away.

Your heart skipped.

You turned, and froze.

Emberforge was standing just behind you, his expression unreadable. No yelling. No snarl.

He stepped closer, eyes cold and voice low. “Stay out of other kirins’ business.”

The tone wasn’t angry. But it wasn’t friendly either.

Just… firm. Steel wrapped in ice.

You nodded quickly, ears folded back. “Y-Yes, sir.”

The photo floated away, vanishing into a drawer with a click of magic.

There was a long moment of silence.

Then Emberforge tilted his head toward your anvil. “You’ve still got metal to shape, don’t you?”

You didn’t argue.

You moved back to your workstation and grabbed the next metal blank.

As your hooves settled into the familiar rhythm of hammering, your mind kept drifting back to that photo. That stiff, unhappy pair.

There was something behind Emberforge’s sharp edges. Something old. Something heavy.

A crack in the wall.

Just enough to make you curious.

Just enough to make you want to know more.

Hours have passed.

The sun hung low in the sky by the time Emberforge finally barked the words you had been waiting to hear.

“That’s enough for today.”

You exhaled sharply and dropped the hammer with a soft clatter onto the workbench. Your hooves ached, Your shoulders throbbed, and you were sure Your mane smelled like soot and singed pride. But you had done it. A whole day. Dozens of nails, maybe not good ones, but they looked like nails, at least.

Emberforge pointed a hoof toward the cluttered work area. “Clean up. Everything back exactly where you found it.”

As you swept, Emberforge strode over to the small table where you had left your finished nails.

Emberforge picked up a few with his magic, turning them over in the air, inspecting them like they were foreign objects he’d just pulled out of a swamp.

You couldn’t help but peek over your shoulder, your breath caught halfway in your throat.

The silence stretched.

Then Emberforge grunted. “They’re not good. But… they’re passable.”

It wasn’t praise, but it was the closest thing to it you figured you'd get today. You smiled faintly and went back to sweeping with renewed energy.

Emberforge levitated the nails into a saddlebag and slung it over his back. He turned to you, scowling as always. “I’m taking these to the carpenters. I expect this forge to be cleaner than when I left it. And you better be gone by the time I’m back.”

And with that, he left, heavy hoofsteps echoing behind him like rolling thunder.

You got to work, carefully putting every tool, scrap, and set of tongs exactly where it belonged. You even wiped the soot off the anvil and polished the edge of the workbench just a little. The forge may have been Emberforge’s domain, but you figured you might be able to earn a little respect, someday, maybe.

By the time you stepped out into the cool evening air, you were deathly tired, covered in soot, and sore in places you didn’t even know could get sore.

But despite it all… you didn’t feel like a failure.

The walk home was quiet and peaceful, a slow contrast to the banging and heat of the forge. When you finally reached Rain Shine’s home, you pushed open the door, your limbs dragging and mane wild with sweat and smoke.

you stepped inside and called out, voice barely above a mumble.

“I’m home…”

The door creaked shut behind you with a soft click. You barely made it a few steps inside before the scent of fresh herbs and warm firelight washed over you, a sharp contrast to the smoke and sweat clinging to your fur.

“Anon?” Rain Shine’s voice came from the living room, gentle as always.

You didn’t answer right away. You just stood there, sagging in place like your legs might give out. A few seconds passed before Rain Shine stepped into view, her expression shifted immediately when she saw you.

“Oh, my stars…” she murmured.

Her horn lit with a soft glow, and a thick, folded towel floated into the air beside her. “Come here, little one,” she said, not unkindly. “Let’s get you cleaned up.”

You didn’t resist. She walked you over to a low bench and began wiping the soot from your face and neck, her touch careful and slow. The towel was warm, blissfully warm, and her presence even warmer. You let out a long sigh.

“It was rough,” you mumbled, eyes half-lidded. “But… not impossible.”

Rain Shine smiled, brushing back your mane. “That’s good to hear. You made it through your first day. And more importantly…” She paused, tapping her hoof to your chest, just over your heart. “You stayed calm?”

You swallowed and gave a little nod. “I… almost didn’t. He yelled so loud, I thought my ears would start to bleed. I messed everything up at first, but… I kept breathing. Like you taught me.”

Rain Shine leaned down and gave your forehead a soft nuzzle. “I’m proud of you.”

That made you smile, tired and crooked, but real.

Dinner was simple, steamed greens, slices of root vegetable, and little toasted rice cakes. Your appetite returned once you started eating, the tension of the forge fading bit by bit with every bite. Rain Shine sat across from you, quietly enjoying her own meal, until your curiosity bubbled back up.

“Hey… Rain Shine?”

She looked up with a hum.

“Why is Emberforge like that?” you asked, poking your rice cake with a hoof. “I mean, I saw this photo at the forge, he was little, with another kirin that looked just like him. He didn’t look happy. Is that his dad?”

Rain Shine’s expression softened, not just softened. It fell, just a little. Her eyes grew distant, and her smile turned sad.

“Emberforge has… lived a very hard life, Anon,” she said quietly. “He doesn’t share much about it, and I won’t betray that trust. But… the pain he carries has shaped him into someone who struggles to show kindness. Or trust.”

You nodded, slowly. “I figured you wouldn’t tell me everything. That’s okay.”

“I just ask you to be patient with him,” Rain Shine added, “as patient as you were today. That matters more than you know.”

You finished your meal quietly after that, letting her words settle in. When the dishes were cleared and rinsed, you helped clean up, carefully stacking the bowls and wiping the table with a damp cloth. The rhythm of the task soothed you.

When everything was in order, you turned to Rain Shine.

“I think… I’m gonna go take a bath and go to bed early.”

She smiled softly and walked over, giving you another nuzzle as her magic gently brushed a soot-smudge from your cheek. “You’ve earned it.”

You took a quick bath, thankfully, you could get in and out on your own now, thanks to the little step ladders Rain Shine had ordered from the carpenter.

With a yawn, you climbed the stairs to your room, the gentle creak of the floorboards beneath your hooves familiar and calming. You crawled into your bed, tucked under the soft blankets Rain Shine had cleaned for you just a few nights ago. As your eyes grew heavy, you thought about Emberforge. About the fire in the forge. The photo. The yelling. The nails.

The moon was starting to rise over the Peaks of Peril, casting silvery light across the quiet Kirin village. Crickets chirped softly beyond your window, and the breeze carried the scent of pine and cool earth.

Tucked beneath your blanket, body aching and fur still faintly smelling of forge smoke, you stared at the wooden ceiling of your little room. Today had been… a lot. Hard, loud, frustrating. Emberforge was still a storm of grumbles and scowls, and the work had been heavier than anything you’d ever done.

But you made it.

You didn’t quit. You didn’t flare up. You remembered to breathe.

Rain Shine’s words echoed gently in your mind.

“You stayed calm.”

A small smile tugged at the corners of your mouth. You thought about Autumn’s teasing. Her bandage on your leg. Her visit when you needed it most. You thought about the weird, glowing beauty of the forge fire

Your eyes grew heavier.

Tomorrow would come soon. And with it, another day of heat, iron, and Emberforge.

But for now… you let out one last, steady breath, and let sleep take you.

>”It’s simple, really. Nightmare Moon rebelled against her sister because she felt as if her efforts to rule over the night went unappreciated. All she truly needed was an ear to listen and a shoulder to cry on.” Sunny answered matter-of-factly.

“I’ll, uh, have what she’s having.” You answer as confidently as you can muster.

“Oh, shoot, uh…”
>”Noooooo he didn’t!” A familiar voice interjects.
>Pinkie Pie soon reveals herself, carrying a display case holding a freshly baked red velvet cake.

>”Ah, well, there we go.” Mr. Cake says before cutting a slice of the cake and presenting it to you.
“Thank you, Pinkie.” You say to her, relieved to have been spared any further social tension.
>”No problemo, Anonymo!” Pinkie giggles.
>”Your total comes to six bits.” Mrs. Cake informs you and Sunny as Pinkie rearranges the cake displays.
“I’ve got it right here…” You say to her, reaching into your bag and producing the bits for payment.
>”Are you sure, Anonymous? I wouldn’t mind paying.” Sunny tries to offer, but you shake your head.
“Nah, it’s fine.” You reply, passing the bits over to Mrs. Cake before Sunny can protest some more.
>”Saaaaaay…” Pinkie speaks up again, leering at Sunny.
>”Don’t I know you from somewhere?”
>Sunny takes a step backward and nervously laughs, avoiding eye contact.
>”Well, I can’t imagine so…” Sunny answers.
>”Hmmm… I’m sure I’ve seen you before somewhere!” Pinkie insists, leering even closer at Sunny.
>A moment of tense silence passes.
>”Oh, well! Must be just my imagination!” Pinkie disarms herself, backing off.
>Sunny breathes a sigh of relief and takes her slice of cake.
>”You two enjoy your sweets!” Pinkie wishes to you and Sunny before she bounces off, presumably to attend to more cake related matters.
>”Thank you, we will!” Sunny says to her before she disappears over the hills.
>You hastily move out of the way of the ponies behind you with your cake carefully held on the plate given to you.
>Sunny walks alongside you, but she’s having a little more trouble balancing the plate with her mouth.

“Maybe we should step out of the way and eat the cake somewhere safer?” You suggest to Sunny after setting your plate of cake aside.
>”Yesh, that shounds like a good idea.” Sunny agrees through the plate being held in her mouth.
>But when Sunny tries to move through the crowd to join you, she stumbles over a small rock on the ground and falls forward, ending up on the ground with her face smashed into her slice of cake.
>A few of the ponies surrounding you two noticed this and laughed amongst themselves at Sunny’s expense.
>Sunny looks down at the ground with her face covered in bits of cake, visibly humiliated.
>”Forget how to use your hooves, feather-brain?” A snooty unicorn mare mockingly asks her.
“Hey, back off.” You immediately say to the unicorn, stepping forward.
>It’s difficult to say who was more surprised by this act: her, or you.
>You’ve never shown this kind of backbone when it came to standing up for yourself, but your defense of Sunny was so immediate.
>”Pfft, what, are you her boyfriend, or something?” She asks you.
“Why, you jealous?” You shoot back at her, inviting a few “Ooh”s from the small crowd surrounding the three of you.
>The unicorn takes a step back with a sour look on her face.
>”You wish, loser.” She retorts right before turning around and marching off before you could subject her to another one of your witty remarks.
>The crowd disperses soon after, leaving you alone with Sunny, still on the ground her face still a mess.
>Sunny gets back up and cleans the bits of cake off her face, but sadly looks down at the ruined plate that once held the cake she was looking forward to enjoying.
>The sight pulls at your heartstrings, enough to make you want to help.
“...You can have my cake, if you want.” You offer.
>Sunny shakes her head, forcing a weak smile.
>”Oh, thank you, but I couldn’t ask you for that…”
“Well, good thing you’re not asking.” You remind her with a small smile, pushing your slice of cake towards her.
>Sunny remains visibly conflicted.
>”But…”
“Sunny, I live here. If I want some red velvet cake, I can just go to Sugarcube Corner and get some. This is your vacation from Canterlot, you deserve to enjoy your time here.” You insist.
>Sunny looks up at you with a lot of emotion in her eyes before she lets herself look at the slice of cake you offered her.
>She gets back onto her hooves and carefully takes the cake, placing it safely beside her.
>Sunny looks at you with a wide smile and a faint blush on her cheeks.
