How high is your max output tokens value? Because if you're using a thinking model, thinking tokens count towards it, and if it runs out while thinking, it will just return an empty candidate.
Try something like 5000 to be sure.

assuming I understand correctly, they trigger on keywords by {{user}}, but not by {{char}}.
I'm speculating something like an extension which could resend {{char}} messages as user in the background, then regenerate with the lorebook entries present, all in the background before giving the final reply. As a way to offload much to lorebooks rather than the card or message context, saving on tokens.

They do, in fact.
The only thing is that it won't activate at the moment the message by {{char}} is made, since the AI can't change its output on the fly. It will activate for the next output once it's in context.

that's then passed on to the user. it does mean the bot would be slower having to do every message twice, but you could offload a ton to lorebooks to keep the RP going longer without hitting the context limit
could also maybe get creative with putting stuff into a new lorebook on the fly automatically, since ST allows chat specific lorebooks as well as a character one

Makes me remember on how ReMemory can be configured to use lorebooks to store its summaries.
Even if it stubbornly wants you to use an auxiliary character lorebook, making it a mess to use if you have different chats with the same character.

It's more about personal taste and all the models we have, IMO.
I don't know that much about Deepseek, so when someone asks, I often post public presets that are often mentioned, but I don't know what works best.
In the general, we had an anon posting >>42307232, another one saying he only uses empty presets to get the best results... etc.
There is still sharing of presets, but it's more divided than in the past when we were all using Claude because it was what was easily available and also liked.
There is no single best meta, so the best you can do is just share findings, even simple ones, or give a bunch of presets to a newcomer so they can test and study them to see what works best for them.

I've been retouching the code to better support the official Gemini API now that they gave us 2.5 Pro back for free.
Honestly, it works really quite well. I could see it being my main model for this. Huge context too, so that's a plus. Everyone who wants to test the game will be able to do it for free and have a good experience.

13K right of the bat is a lot, IMO. But it depends on how much is really necessary.
Words that are in your character description do not trigger lorebooks, if I remember correctly. So maybe you can give a bit of context there to guide the AI naturally and keep the heavy description for when one of the terms is triggered.

Several anons asked for her, and it's true that it did feel wrong not to have her present.
For Luna, it was easy to have her in your dreams each night, but I didn't know how to introduce Celly.
What I did is that on the first Sunday of sandbox_mode, Twilight will tell you that Princess Celestia has summoned you both. So you take the train and go visit her.
Following that, each Sunday, you can decide to stay in Ponyville like normal or go visit Celestia, either alone or with Twilight.
Adding a character doesn't take too long with the system in place (15-20min), it's mostly the special triggers for her, etc.
One thing I would like (but really after the first release in this case, since it will take a bit more time) is a system where you can write her a letter on other days and receive one from her before going to bed.

Do any of you guys have a lorebook that explores the political side of Equestrian world? Yes, I do mean Celestia's tax policy and the such. I can always try to come up with something myself, but maybe there are some likeminded autists out there.

It's not as advanced as ST, but there are three 'presets' you can change. They're in three JSON files, so you can also share them and modify them outside of the game.
One for the generation of scenes when you enter a location.
One for the Q/A part.
And one for the story summarization.
I didn't add prefilling yet.

Didn't try it myself, but if you change the scene generation and Q/A presets for it, it shouldn't be a problem. Some models are also not that filtered to start with.

I got Silly to work easily but that's because I'm a codefag to begin with, the existing guide I used for it was bloated and ESL as fuck and you had to scroll halfway down to find the relevant portion anyway. I've always been a filthy casual when it comes to chatbots. Gemini+SillyTavern was my initial setup and for a while it worked like a dream right out of the box with no fiddling needed, could prompt pretty much anything with no pushback or censoring. Came back after not using it for a bit and some update must have fucked it because it kept bitching at me when I'd try to steer RPs into NSFW territory and just didn't feel as free or unfettered as it had previously. Got tired of fighting with it and tried DeepSeek for a bit but it wasn't much better. Anyways, I'm trying a local setup with Kobold+Rocinante+SillyTavern now and so far it's been really serviceable, user friendly, and generally frictionless for what I use it for. Not perfect but enjoyable enough. I'm branching out and learning more about tweaking and optimizing it, plus it's all local so no more feeling weird about Google spying on all my weird fetishes. I'm optimistic about localfagging becoming more and more viable.

I had that autistic idea of Tree of Harmony is dying - magic is dying as well - Twilight saves remnant of it into Unity - Unity should have been protected until you Tree reappears - civilization moved on - forgot about initial purpose - and now Sunny is looking for them - no Opaline. For Greetings, I just think of situations I want to have with the characters, situations I want the characters to be put in, or open scenarios, and it's enough to give a draft or at least a direction. They feel more motivating to write for me.
Descriptions feel more mechanical. You can still give them a style if you want, but it does feel a bit more like a checklist.
- My character is an OC or a not-so-well-known background pony, so I need to put her coat, mane, and eye color somewhere.
- I need to explain the personality while avoiding sentences or words that can push some models too far in a direction.

Some models overuse color descriptors by default:

- Models are better at not bringing up her wings with something like:

Dunno whose fault it is but the second greeting on the new Flurry card doesn't get imported properly. I had to manually copy it in.
Also for the love of fuck if you're a cardmaker please learn to have at least one greeting that's short and in roleplay style instead of being overly long narration. Some of us still like to have a back and forth with the bot instead of having them godmode or go on for way too long by themselves. I know scenarios are deprecated but the modern standard of baking setting info into the starting message has been a disaster for cards' writing style.

Reason I don't write short greetings without any scenario info is because it's pretty pointless. It takes so little effort, anyone using the card can easily do it themselves, or just gen it with a simple prompt.

It's still an alpha, and since I'm not a cooder and this is a fairly big project, I'm expecting some bugs, issues, and probably feature requests from anons.
Not sure I want to clog the thread with that kind of stuff though, I know some anons just don't care.
Should I set up a public doc for bug reports and suggestions, maybe include a burner email? Or just drop the game and let things play out naturally? Open to ideas.

I don't really need greetings to be a blank slate (those are easy to make on your own), but at least on the models I use (mainly DS) a long intro will result in long replies down the road, which inevitably results in the model either pushing too far in a scene without your input or going in circles for too long in a single message.

DS is very touchy with JBs and such. Because you keep it at lower temps, it's actually too good at following instructions, which makes replies bad in the other way.
Other points of note are when a greeting spends more time on the scenery than on the character, speaks for other characters, or in general acts more like, as you said, the start of a story than a message. Because there are no example messages, the model will refer back to and kind of copy the first one in subsequent ones, which is just not what I'm looking for in a rp. Having the greeting speak for Shining WILL result in the card speaking for you or bringing in other characters rather than just rping as Flurry. Having it describe the thoughts of the patrons IS responsible for the eventual "somewhere, something somethings" that DS throws in so much, because you're priming the model to be an omniscient third person narrator rather than a character. And I know some people enjoy that, but it's really not what I'm here for.
Ideally a greeting would be focused on the character, about the character, describing the actions and thoughts of the character. Stuff like "you're Flurry's new caretaker" should be part of the card itself. That obviously has the huge problem that it directs all conversations in that direction, which is even worse, but the ideal solution to this would be a rotating system of scenarios where part of the card is treated like greetings and for each chat you only choose what applies, because polluting the greeting with it influences the style. Personally I try to weave it into the greeting in a non obtrusive way that traces back to the character itself ([charater looks at {{user}} and says "So you're my new teacher?"] rather than [you've been assigned to be character's new teacher] as part of the message itself), but it's an imperfect system. The reality is that a card will give the best results when it's fully focused on a single scenario and greetings are just a hacky way to get multiple ones in, but often the info they contain would ideally be part of the card itself were it not for them conflicting with each other.
But a lot of people ITT clearly have 0 issue with the model going full godmode and acting for them, so who knows.

Also, I often like having multiple characters interacting in a scene, but I see the point about focusing only on the titular character in a single character card. Will keep that in mind for future greetings.

Usually if I want multiple characters I also want control over each one, so I just have different cards for each. Temporary interactions being handled by the card is okay but the more you lean into it the more you inevitably inch closer to the model acting for you too. The problem is exponential when you're the one doing the narration and puppeteering a different character without a card, as the model is then a lot more likely to take control of that too.

I personally don't use any greetings anymore. I can write an opener that sets the scene to any degree of detail I want and the models I use are smart enough to follow this without any issues.

It depends on how you do it: the other anon has a point in that seemingly innocuous decisions such as bringing in other characters are unnecessary and influence the model's behavior in a way some anons may dislike. You have to keep mind on a lot of things like that when making a card to share.
The rest of his issues are just generic Deepseek issues. Which is also something you have to keep in mind when making a card. Ideally you'd test it against all four popular models and see how it holds up.
