Why did they tease Sparity so much? Not just in the series, but the comics and the books too.
It never actually happened, it couldn't happen because they made it clear several times that Spike was a kid, so why push it so much?

Because a majority of the people who worked on the series love Rarity. Spike is sort of a self insert. He's her man slave willing to do anything for her without expecting anything in return. He never gets over Rarity and moves on because the writers find the idea insulting to Rarity.

As the OP I wouldn't say I like it or hate it, I just don't understand it. It has a lot of shippers, both in the fanbase and the writers, but it's a love between a baby dragon and a pony who is old enough to have her own business.
