coin update
talked with a guy who knew a guy, got them both on IRC and talked about coin design, amount of pressure needed for stamping, etc.
I'll need a 200ton hydraulic press. I'll probably make 5" solid 1045 steel rollers from scratch to flatten the blanks out to a specific size. I'll probably make it like 6" or so, doesn't need to be super long (even though I've made much much larger rollers in size and length before)
it was recommended to make the depths of surface features no more than .04"
I'll probably make the actual coin die out of A1 or O1 tool steel, then harden it after machining and any surface finishing. I'll consult with another guy I know before deciding exactly what material to make the die out of though. there is a lot of surface work to be done by hand, might need to make multiple sets because of how tiny imperfections would show up easily.
Tons of additional information that I won't be boring about.
I have basically all the information I think I need, just need time to actually make what I want.
so you guys know, I expect to be spending 6k or more on raw materials just to make the custom minting equipment. no idea how long it will take to make everything and make the first coin.
If anybody wants to turn the vector into a 3D solid that would be good. Preferably NURBS based (solidworks) so I could use it in the CAM software
>>42329570after the first few coins are made then need to figure out how to crowd fund that much silver and figure out taxes and such.
