Am I the only one who thinks this animation is kinda... boring? I always liked Little Shop of Horrors and this song, but this animation doesn't really seem to add anything fun. If anything, it somehow looks more stilted than my memory of this scene. Like, I'm sure he worked really hard on it, but, I don't know... This feels kinda empty and like it exists for the sake of itself, just for him to draw more mares to jerk off. You can't be serious man. Look at Colgate's slow stilted cycled backwards jumping in the end at 1:37-1:40. There's more life and movement in any of Pinkie Pie's bouncing animations from S1 than in this. Which, again, is fair for a fan animation, but don't claim it's better when it's obviously not.

The big thing missing for me is the sound effects. No drill noise, no door opening, no impact sounds, no neck snap when she pulls Trixie's head back or when the doll's head comes off. Without any of that, it loses a lot of the punch that made the original so good. Those sounds helped sell both the comedy and the sadism. I think it also needed the drilling and tooth pulling scene for the same reason.
It almost feels like Batsy didn't really want to portray Minuette as sadistic at all, and just wanted it to be a cute and sexy homage where she really does just love her job for normal reasons. But then he still kept scenes like with her ripping off the doll's head and kicking Trixie in the groin. It just makes the tone feel off when it's not committing one way or the other.
I still like it though, and I don’t think it’s fair to expect his animation to be more expressive than Steve Martin. Batsy’s a good artist, but you’ve got to have reasonable expectations for a fan animation done in his style.

For Batsy to be experienced enough to know how to get this out without missing the deadline (getting it out by /mlp/con) actually says a lot. Trying anything new and ambitious always leads to delays of unpredictable lengths as you cannot predict how long it will take to learn and do something you don't have any experience doing. If you actually want to make something really good that supersedes the quality you've put out before, you don't get to decide when it will be finished. It gets done when it gets done. Setting hard deadlines is the biggest way to cripple your growth. You don't learn anything from deadlines, your only option is to do what you already know how to do. And if Batsy is familiar with recycling frames and transforming/tweening layers to get it done (apparent from his previous videos), then that's what he'll do, since he can more easily predict how long it will take to complete it. Batsy does it well enough that it has a decent semblance of life without being labor-intensive enough to have an unpredictable completion date. But I don't see why anyone here should complain since this is a board about colorful macromedia flash horses.
