Both is correct.
Misprints were handed out for free, "good" prints were 10 Euros.
The misprints were on the printing company, so why charge for them.
In the end that turned out double the amount of books and many didn't evem care about the misprint and/or enjoyed a free book.

Printing costs were pretty much exactly covered. You can in fact print books for this price knowing the right services, having codes and ordering more than just a few.
