I'm mid-way through S4. I drifted away at some point in S3 at the time of airing and I started watching from the start when I got back into it. No binge-watching, though. I've been doing a few episodes a week and letting the mares marinate in my brain.

Absolutely based, anon. Let them marinate, let them inspire you.
However, once you reach a point at which you no longer enjoy new episodes, consider binging them. The anniversary makes the shittiest episodes more bearable, but this year's anni is too soon for your purposes, and next year's is far away.

i've seen every episode of the first seven seasons at least once (although some of them only exactly once, and many of them not in a very long time), as well as a handfull of episodes from the last two seasons that i've been told weren't that bad. most of them were still pretty bad. i've also seen the first three eq movies, but again, not in a very long time, and best gift ever. most of the time when i rewatch the show i just watch random individual episodes, but i should probably do a full show watchthrough at some point.

As a kid I found the show around late S2, saw a rerun of Winter Wrap-up and instantly fell in love. Watched until mid S5, I think right before the CMC got their cutie marks. A few months ago I rediscovered the show and have been hooked on it again, I passed the point of episodes I'd already watched as a kid a few days ago. I'll probably keep going until the end, I feel like after S3-ish a certain part of the comfy atmosphere the early show had was lost, but it was still overall good, and I'm sure I'll at least like it enough to keep watching until the end even if it's not /as/ good as the early seasons that got me hooked.

I just watched What About Discord this morning and really enjoyed it, was surprised to find it was so hated. I also found myself enjoying Haber's episodes so far (Leap of Faith was one of my favorites in S4), though I don't doubt that he steers the show off-course later once he becomes showrunnerโ€”I've seen plenty of examples of "this person writes good on their own little projects but fucks it up hard when they take the reigns on something started by someone else" before.

Still, I already bought the DVDs for everything up to the movie and ripped them to my Jellyfin server, so might as well at least watch that far.

I was under the impression everyone here was some Hasbro consoomer who has seen every single episode and all the movies and Equestria girls things.
I don't really care if people watch the later seasons but, it is essentially a different show and when you do things like replace the golden oak library with a shiny toy playset, that's insulting to me, I have some amount of self-respect for my sensibilities to feel offended. I was going to make a thread actually asking if there are ant episodes of value later on. Other than the Maud Pie episode in season 4, and the Pinkie Pie Family episode in season 5. Which both those are good because they're following up on the original concept from season 1 of the Pie family being boring rock farmers, there's little way to screw that up and not be funny. Although they did manage to screw up some things, why the parents speaks in older english I don't know, it's just not funny or logical and I don't get what the joke is behind Limestone Pie's cutie mark, is it a green eggs and ham reference. I don't even want to know, it's ugly.
I know there's more Trixie later on, but I'm not sure I'd even want to see that, essentially if Starlight Glimmer is involved I do not think she is a good character at all.

Most ponylover fan content, maybe even 99% of the best fan music and fan animations and fictions and images people love, have been produced by people who have never and will never see the later seasons. And being older most people value their time a lot more. I don't care about Princess Twilight and her straight-edge friends going around the world condescending to people. If I was late teens or early 20s again I could probably watch the later seasons especially if I cared to discuss them online or was part of the community. There's a great guy named Awe who does Spongebob videos, great fan of Spongebob, he's see all the modern episodes, only because he has a large following now and so he feels required to do so. If there's a reason you can shovel down the trash.

The entire thing?
Was never a puritan but it was great up until Twilight got her school of friendship / every-creature saga.

I was intoxicated (blazed out of my skull) the entire time though, can't bring myself to watch it again & ruin something once pure. Generation 5 was absolute garbage though, the movie wasn't bland in poor taste & the series even worse. They handed the franchise to Netflix who trashed its legacy and did a smelly shit. Even removed the butt-cracks, might seem inconsequential but that really killed the sex appeal they shamelessly flaunted.

Never gave Wild Manes a chance, they look like cows. An all around inferior specimen! The last good thing to come of MLP was legitimately Equestria Girls, brought us iconic characters like the Dazzles, memorable music & focused on the Mane 6. There were like 4 movies, all great except for Camp Everfree.

Even the official My little Pony movie was sort-of a banger.
But afro-haired misty? Ugh, get that shit away from me.

It's funny because the Golden Oak Library seems way more like somewhere you'd want to live than the Castle of Friendship. The castle's sorta beautiful from the outside but the inside is painfully lonely.

sounds of silence is the only good episode of season 8, but it's really great. if someone told me it was their favorite episode of the entire show, i wouldn't question it at all.
season 9 doesn't have a high nearly that high, but frenemies and sparkle's seven were pretty decent, and i personally actually really liked common ground

I think what's strange to me is does any of this even work, the toys in the show. I've never even met a child who watched this show, nor a child who owned my little pony toys and whether or not they care or need them to be seen in the show. Now the show is getting kind of old I think there's people on 4chan who grew up with it.
But the idea of Hasbro making cartoons that are essentially toy commercials, that's their thing, I just don't see how that works. But maybe because I'm not a fat white american women with kids. Maybe in that kind of lifestyle yeah you have your kids watch this cartoon and then they see the toy and then you go and buy it, I guess.
The soulless corporate greed creatures I don't understand, I don't know how you sleep at night, but also I don't understand the thought process of Lauren made a great show, if the character toys are popular it's because of what the show is, so just continue making toys from the show like the Golden Oak Library. But "No, our studies show that girls want crystal stuff and pink princesses so we need Cadence we need Crystal ponies." And either that didn't work or it worked so well, "Well make Twilight a princess and give her a crystal castle too."
I'm pretty certain they would have made more money if they just let the show be what it was going to be. That's just basic logic I think since it was a success as it was. And short term monetary gains aren't always the answer anyway. I remember a panel with the voice actors they said that Hasbro was very interested and influenced by the brony phenomenon but if they were, they thought bronies were just stupid manchildren who would eat up anything anyways, or they actually didn't care because it's a brand risk to go in a direction pandering to them, but they did pander or DHX did, they did release the "adult toy" series and trading card game. But in the end Hasbro bet on their traditional way of doing things.

Also I took this picture of MLP diapers a few weeks ago.

I used to post Glimmer a bunch just to get a rise out of people, never particularly liked the character either. I did a bad bad thing. Still find it funny how she was redeemed for brainwashing people into a cult like mentality, whilst a literal child is sent to Tartarus and given no second chance.

They really just wrote Cozy Glow to be a loose end, huh? and they even ended the entire show there as if it were a high note.

A yovidaphone is an instrument of Yakyakistan culture; basically bagpipes. The episode is hated because Pinkie's playing is genuinely terrible and agonising, Pinkie is completely overreacting and OOC; it is basically a retread of Party of One, but Pinkie's depression feels not earned - and the message not only contradicts Horse Play (which's events are ironically mentioned in this episode), but is also controversial as is.

It seems like it would've been a far better approach to just let the writers create the story they want to make and then just make toys after. Sure, you might release the new playset a year later but are kids really going to not care just because it's a little late? A successful show's going to rely on reruns anyways.

So this weekend I was drinking with a friend of mine, a fellow horsefucker. Every now and then when we're at our drunkest we watch an episode or two. We both quit back when S5 was airing. We just finished season 6 and began the opening episode of S7. Holy shit bruvs it was awful. Despite both of us endeavoring to comprehend the episode none of it registered, and I sincerely don't think it was just because we were both plastered. It was just talk, talk and talk and stupid fucking OCs. Nothing happened, honestly I can't imagine even children enjoying it due to the inane talking. We quit halfway through because it was genuinly boring and stupid. Then we picked a random old episode, Sweet and Elite. I can't express how much better that episode was. I think we're gonna keep on going with the new seasons, but man the bar is really low, I genuinly feel kinda awkward watching it with someones else due to how fucking bad it is, but when we're watching old episodes that feeling goes away. Why does the nu-seasons suck so much /mlp/ros?
