Prior to the trailer I honestly thought that, against what everyone assumes, Apple Split was actually excited for or in favour of being killed by Care Package on a depraved level. I think in my mind it was this mixture of the honeymoon of new love mixed with the untamed and deadly passion of Apple and Care. Tamers himself said Apple would enjoy being killed and Care Package professed to that much. In fact I had assumed "on top of the world" was on some level a callback to the first applepackage episode. To a lesser extent I still think that it was still an especially horny and love crazed Care Package that repeated what they did with their dad but in different circumstances, lashing out and killing Apple because he couldn't contain his love/lust only to regret it after.
I also thought Care Package had made peace with everything that happened himself. He cherishes his independence but he also very missed having a guiding force in his life, and who better than Soarin his childhood idol and new brother in law to go from being at Care Package's mercy to being another much needed regulator on his behaviour and showing both understanding and authority. (This shit warms my heart like you wouldn't believe, Care Package going from wanting to prove he can control Soarin to Soarin intervening and showing Care the same understanding that Apple showed Care when Apple decided to dominate Care Package when he was freaking out).

As for what will happen now, honestly the other anon has described a good spread of options but I don't think Soarin would reverse either scenario. I think that in a more reflective mindset Apple Bottom will assert themselves but slowly be broken down by Apple Split and Care Package to return to their relationship. Arguably this could be toxic manipulation, but also both Care Package and Apple Split/Bottom are serial killers and abusive manipulation might just be part of their love language in a way that just wouldn't work in other relationships. Or, crazier still, Care Package might just apologise outright in a meaningful way and start choosing to address Apple Split by their preferred name. Of course, there's no telling until the day!

You have to remember that while mares outnumber stallion a thousand to one, stallions still carry power just for men men. Almost all of the mares aside from royalty seem to be part of the underclass. Now compared to stallions like Blueblood, Shining, Soarin, Night light, Jackpot. There also Starlight, where if what she said was true, and she has no reason to lie, then just a few years prior to the current timeline, Stallions made up a whole 51% of pony kind. In other words, Equestria was much MUCH closer to how the human world is portrayed in Sonic underground. Marionette, and everyone else probably experienced many things that led to stallions and mares growing such a deep seated hatred for the other side. It would also explain why they stick to their own groups and straights eventually became the minority.

Soarin very nearly can't reach a bad end, but also it seems like time has to play out fully from the perspective of the physical bodies which physically exist within it, meaning that they can all totally die in a fit of retarded backstabbing. I think the reason why most of the stallion story arcs are so bad compared to the mare ones is because while the mares are vehicles for telling jokes mostly, the stallions are mostly melodrama and lewd scenes. Big Mac was usually not annoying because he is mainly used to tell jokes. Even his relationship's melodrama was always framed by how the relationship itself was a redneck incest joke at first. Hell. both soarin and braeburn were pretty good in the arson episode because they were funny.

Care package feels like a random tumbler archetype dumped into the setting randomly. but I can appreciate what tamers is trying with him. Apple Bottom is just worse gooner bait braeburn. Arinos is just unpleasant whenever they are in screen.

Flawless managed to be tolerable despite being serious because of how everyone reacted comically in character and DOT was well enough done to hold up a serious character like that. Twilight Glimmer is melodrama first, but she isn't horrible because she is still used to tell actually tamer jokes. She was much better in her second appearance. Also, the Big Mac cloak is good for what it is. If Arinos was more like him and was played off more seriously, his overdesign could be s tumblery as it is and not be jarring

When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by farting really loudly. I think he may have shit himself because he waddled out of the door instead of just walking normally.

Tamer's character writing is at its best in his comedy and those SOL comedy interactions are how he builds up to his serious stuff. The serious plots and arcs are generally not even that deep or original, but it's watching the characters Tamers built up going through them that makes them good. The Big Mac - Soarin - Braeburn love triangle worked when it did because it felt out of place and Tamers made us invested in them through the comedy scenes. Pretty much every TwilightxTrixie scene before DOT was comedic and that's why when it became serious it meant so much more and people bought it.

Even though lots of people weren't a fan of the stallion love triangle, people looked at it more favorably than the later gay stuff because tamers just throw in a premade Tumblr archetype rather than write them the way he writes characters best.
