I've never been to a con myself but one of my friends went to the HZBC last year. He told me it's not as good as he expected. There weren’t any real panels and the activities felt awkward, except for the sing-along which seemed to be a lot of fun. The band wasn’t great either as there was one girl singer who kept going off-key. The vendor area was nice though, he bought a lot of beautiful merch and gave me a few cute little pins.

It's quite a short con, lasting just a day. I’m not sure if the bigger ones like CNBC or CSBC are the same (they do look fun in videos and seem to have way better schedules), but honestly, he kinda convinced me not to bother going at all as I’m not the social type anyway and I really don't wanna meet people I know online irl.
Would like to go to Mare Fair though, but I'm broke as hell, can't afford the trip and they won't approve my visa.

One thing for certain, there‘s gonna be tons of cute cosplayers. Every photo taken from the cons indicates this fact, so if you are a tall white guy, just go!

I haven't had that much success with my pre-con activities, mostly as the place is swarming with normies and normie kid families as well, and most con people seem to be setting up the hall, and perhaps the ones not setting up the hall are hanging out in their own QQ groups somewhere else.
Only MLP interaction atm has been a short talk with the Russian Sweetiebot people and I've not seen any good spot to lobbycon.

I dunno chynanon, cons are rough if you're not at least trying to socialize a bit. Shitposting with others about mediocre panels/activities, can be fun as well. It's not strict as long as you have a VPN. It is technically illegal but cops won't actually go through the hassle to hunt down everyone using it. Kind of a legal grey area. That said, there’s a military parade coming up in September, so they’ve been nuking a bunch of proxy services lately.

What really matters is whether you have said anything "disrespectful" about the "glorious" party and its "great" leaders. I was once brought to the police station for doing so. Thankfully I wasn't 18 at that time otherwise I would have been detained for about a week. That was horrible, but they won't execute you as some would think, it's not DPRK.

Though there is still one thing, most locally sold Android phones these days come with all the Google services ripped out by default, meaning you cannot use Play Store, Youtube and all those things unless you reflash the phone. Also there's this Harmony OS developed by Huawei that sucks ass and isn't compatible with literally anything yet still has a shit ton of people simping over it because it "breaks the US operating system monopoly." There's no chance you could access sites like youtube on those phones.

So I would say it's a soft kind of strict, because they’ve done a damn good job making sure the general public never finds out what a GFW is, let alone what's beyond it. But if you’ve got a brain and know what you’re doing, it’s really not that hard to get around.

Access to western sites in Chyna can be a bit spotty, and this place is pretty bad, so posting will a bit limited until I get somewhere with more unrestricted access.

I talked a bit with the artist I commissioned for a pic, she was very sorry about not being able to finish the commission the following day when having a queue of like 20 commissions, and converted it into a digital commission for later delivery.
She seemed to be very busy so I didn't want to bother her too much with questions about the Chyna fan art scene, I'm also not sure if I got my point through either. I talked with some other local fans and the gist of it seems to be that there's no larger central site for art, some artists have their own QQ groups, which would be akin to having an own Discord "server", but this one (国和, the bottom one on the poster) didn't have one. They also use 小红书,Xiaohongshu/Little Red Book as well for sharing art. Some also post art on Twitter/X.

About 200, and what I heard is that it's lower attendance than last year, which CSBC being at the same weekend might play a part in.
It's a bit hard for an outsider to figure out which con to go to, the locals told be that CNBC is still one of the largest ones, but the Sweetiebot Russians claimed that the Jinan Brony Festival (JNBF) is currently the largest.
English, most attendees are local, I think the Russians and me were the only foreigners at the con. Everything was in Chinese, the Ingram and Sweetiebot panels had a Chinese-English interpreter, (and a signer).

There are some who at least have some knowledge of 4chan, /mlp/, anon, anonfilly, the jar and so on, but I think it would be extremely rare to find someone who browses the board enough to pass as a real anon. Chyna more or less have their own communities and I do think the communities themselves are pretty separated as well.

Anyways, there are lots of options available for delivery, so you could always go for western fast food as well, like KFC is super big in Chyna for some reason, but I feel it's a bit meh going to Chyna just to eat things that are available at home.

CNBC, and perhaps most Chynacons have a very different vibe and setup compared to the western cons I've been to.
The con being held in one single large hall means that the general feel is more of everyone milling about in the area, doing whatever they feel like, whether if it's browsing the vendor merch, playing board games/Fighting is Magic, buying themed food and drinks, looking at Sweetiebot or just hanging out with others. All while there are things going on on stage. This meant that like half the people in the hall were actually paying attention to the stage most of the time.
This also means if you get overwhelmed by stimuli, the only way is to get out of the hall and find some other spot to chill at.
The venue itself didn't offer that many good spots to lobbycon at, there were very few areas where you could sit and just chill with others.
The general schedule for the con is a bit earlier compared to western cons, and the activities start at about 9 am and end at about 8 pm.
Due this, the language barrier and being a bit awkard at socializing, the only side activity I ended up going on was the KFC room party announced in the QQ group on Day 0, and the West Lake/Hot pot post con night excursion on Sunday.

Actual activities were a bit sparse compared to how CNBC 2024 looked like in announcements, photos and general attendee sentiment.
As mentioned in some earlier post, there were more attendees 2024 compared to this year.
There were also some organizational issues like the con book and some badge perks being handed out on day 2 instead of during registration.
There was a about 1.5-2 hour long concert that had to end at about 8 pm as the venue staff wanted to close the hall by then. With two DJs doing their sets, were there were like three remixes of Under our Spell.
There seem to be more EqG appreciation as well, with some of the EqG songs during the ending singalong getting way more engagement that the pony songs, some picks from the main show like "Find the Purpose in Your Life" were a bit unusual.
Another probably chynacon thing was people handing out trinkets like keychains and pins with their OCs on them and also cosplaying as your OC. Actual ponysuits were pretty rare, most were just going for the clothing and accessories style. There were some fursuits though, I guess that's unavoidable with the fandom overlap that exists.

The coins were mainly used to pay for the themed drinks, the DIY cupcake, playing the ring toss game, and making your own perler. Each coin worth 10CNY.
There were also gold coins worth 3x silver coins, and paper notes worth half a silver coin.

For all the merch, the Con badge was 260CNY, the plush was 100CNY the first day, the price of them was increased to 350CNY the second day.
