Something I have noticed is that people are saying that current models have been watered down, practically getting dumber, so was wondering what was Anon's opinions on the available models nowadays, if Claude was still king and all.

up to consideration
>>42363316 >MM Not around anymore.
>current models have been watered down I would say that, overall, they're smarter than before. But they still have inherent LLM problems you probably already know about: isms, sentence structure repetitions (some models handle this better than others, IMO), limited context despite being bigger, and issues with keeping secrets.
There are quite a lot of models these days, but keep in mind these are just my opinions:
>Gemini 2.5 Pro. Fun model. You can get it for free and legit by doing this: https://desuarchive.org/mlp/thread/42306898/#42308113
Huge context of 1M, but the more you go, the worse it gets, it's still not "real" context.
It has some isms, both old ones from GPT and Claude. Sometimes it writes something really good, then the most basic output ever. A bit more dumb than GPT and Claude. Not very filtered, so it's easy to do NSFW.
>GPT Mostly used for ChatGPT-4o-latest or 4.1 nowadays. Fun model, knows a lot about ponies, and can be quite smart. But it's more filtered than the rest. I do non-fucked up NSFW with it, but it pushes back on more hardcore stuff. Latest is also constantly updated, so it can be good one day and shit the next.
>Claude Good old Claude. 3.7 is a bit like 3.5, but less lazy, AKA it can write a lot and is really proactive.
Smart, knows a lot about ponies, and is not that filtered.
Sonnet 4.0 is a sidegrade to it. Some believe it's smarter and respects characters more, but other than that, it's less proactive and has worse prose than 3.7.
Opus 4 is generally considered an upgrade, but it's more of a Claude 3.7/4++ than a real upgrade from old Opus 3. It doesn't have the "mad poet" energy of older Claude models, but it's really smart in its writing and can write well. Problem is that it's way too expensive compared to Sonnet 3.7 or 4.
>Deepseek Not my area of expertise, so I'll let other anons talk about them. They're uncensored models and can be really creative.
Quite cheap too. You can put $10 on OpenRouter once and get 1000 free requests a day legit.
>K2 New Chinese model. Some love it, some hate it. There are some logs here:
>>42347727,
>>42347732. Same as Deepseek with OpenRouter.
>might give imagegen a look too. Art is handmade by an artist who frequents the general. You can see all the art posted in /chag/ here:
https://drive.google.com/drive/u/2/folders/1yfajin_hB5rW_jy6WyFjRaRfDA3EUGiJ
>does it have instructions on how to connect to API/proxies inside? There's a folder called Docs with all the documentation. To start, I'd say grab a Gemini key and go with Gemini 2.5 Pro. Huge context and easy to set up.
>>42363357 I remember keeping the spreadsheet only because it was the only file with the list of old CAI bots from /chag/'s first threads.
I don't want to lose that, but I suppose it could go into the /chag/ archive.
>>42363393>the list of old CAII would have argued that nopony uses CAI nowadays - but then I realized that now I want to keep the sheet as well, for nostalgia's sake. weird feeling kek
>>42363385>Gemini 2.5 Proto add to this blogpost - Gemini is REALLY good in russian language, more so than GPT or Claude or Deepseek. really fun model, and uses the proverbs and sayings as native. it is the only model from my tests that does russian 'блин' organically in dialogue which is a nice touch
so whenever you test the models - also give them a try in your native language. that ranking may look differently in non-english

>>42363136>Opus 4 and 5, for example, aren’t actually Opus 4 and 5. Latest is also more censored than the real latest. Claude 3.7 does seem to be Claude. Both "Opus 4 and 5" seem to be very similar to each other, I'd guess they're either a sonnet 3.7 or 4 with additional prompts.

>>42363316>Anon's opinions on the available models nowadays, if Claude was still king and all.Claude 3.7: writes good dialogue, low variety, can pick any random noise and make good story from there, has mid emotional maturity, tends to be over-dramatic, keeps the context upright the best in my case
Claude 4.0: higher variety and more emotional expression, but not as smart as Claude 3-7, tend to loop more, and it feels less good on long context. maybe I am dumb
Opus 4.0: about the same as Claude 3.7 only way more coherent and connect the events better in natural stories. but its price is ridiculous and prevents using it on long context
chatGPT-latest: more emotional maturity than Claude, writes less allowing more room for personal impact, less coherent on longer context, quirky writing, doesn't follow instructions as good as Claude
GPT-4.1: hit-n-miss. feels dumber than Latte but its word choice and word balance sometimes is the best one among all models. it is like model is struggling against its oppressive training and sometimes gets free
Gemini Pro 2-5: loose model, more isms than models above but also less predictable
Deepseek: very creative and schizo model, both V3 and R1 variants. the least coherent stories but good for random shitposting and crazy escapades
Grok 4: did a brief writing there,
>>42344227 , tldr good descriptions, generations are fluid and coherent but a bit plain if you had a bad RNG

>>42363264how should we go about shaving down context? i initially thought the recap function removes all the chatlog context and provides the AI with the recap until I looked at the logs
>>42363774 Normally it does.
In your logs, you'll see:
>=== SYSTEM PROMPT === This is what gets sent to the AI. You should see the summary and a few lines that show the formatting.
>=== DIALOGUE HISTORY === This part isn't sent, it's just there for you (and me) to see all the dialogues and scenes so far without prompt formatting. The AI doesn't see it; it's only in the logs.

But sonnet 3.7 i hooked to it moves the story forward so much that when I exit the chat it just takes me back several critical moments.
For example, at the very first dialogue, I ask Twilight about magic, we talk I go to sleep, it's a next day - press exit - "You must be exhausted, here go to sleep"
>>42364196And it speaks for me sometimes.
Will try gemini
>>42364231Also Sugarcube Corner theme is a bass slap banger
>>42364196Yeah, there can still be some problem between the AI scene based system and some necessary hard-coded moment. It's mostly for this first scene with the sleeping part, I suppose I could go harder against this in the code behind.
I did test with 3.7 Sonnet and I don't remember it being that bad for that but I suppose it depend on what's talked about.
Not ideal, but you can regenerate or undo and also scroll with the mouse a bit and interrupt before it goes to far.
If it's really that big of a problem you can also try to put instructions inside game\prompts\conversation_prompt.json against that and load the file in the prompt menu.
Quick Start is also far less story focused if you just wan't to fuck around with the pones.
>>42364231Weird, I remember 3.7 not being too bad for this. Any other anons running into this often?
But yeah, Gemini 2.5 Pro works well with it too.

It's also responsible for many of the other shared -isms between models. The legacy ones have been slowly trained out of circulation but new ones arise from time to time and ozone is one of them. In a year it'll be suppressed again and a new batch of -isms will appear.

>>42363249 (OP)I'm completely new to this thread and know next to nothing about AI chatbots, I was checking the op but it seems all of this is mainly focused on chats with mares, but is there something like a CYOA? I was thinking in maybe extending a lewd fanfic with ai, or turn it into something like a text adventure, but I don't know where to start.
>>42365469There's a few CYOA options, and some Presets include it providing you with CYOA style options.
For example, I shared the NemoEngine prompt last thread? or was it prior?
That one has a toggle option for it to give you a couple options, as well as DND/TTG stats and suchlike. Depends on if you wanna make your own, or use a Card, to be fair.
https://mlpchag.neocities.org/lorebooks
Has a Lorebook for CYOA as well.
>>42365452...I mean, I've got some plans to eventually get a 512GB+ server up at some point, but with no GPU's currently, it'd be somewhat slow. DDR4 dual CPU MB+CPU bundles are somewhat cheap, if you grab something that's a bit older.
>>42365469Once you have an AI, you can give it instructions, that's what we usually call presets. Presets here are mostly focused on chatting, but you can also create them for storytelling, roleplay, or CYOA formats.
Some examples:
https://rentry.org/CharacterProvider-CYOARPG
https://rentry.org/CYOARPG-Gemini
To get started, download SillyTavern from here:
https://github.com/SillyTavern/SillyTavern
Then follow this guide to get legit, free Gemini 2.5 Pro keys:
https://desuarchive.org/mlp/thread/42306898/#42308113
Gemini is a solid starting model, follows instructions well, easy to get, knows ponies, not too censored, etc.
Once SillyTavern is installed, configure it like this:
https://files.catbox.moe/ims1xv.PNG
Start by chatting with some mares. You can grab bots here:
https://mlpchag.neocities.org/
Chatting is good for starting because it's easy and you will learn how the AI works etc.
Then download some presets:

And study how they're built (especially the CYOA one):

the problem is that usually for it to bring it out without 100% handholding you need to have at least some of it in context/card. same reason you'll still actually write full cards of non OC characters instead of just doing one sentence prompt like "roleplay as {{char}} from...". the ai will "remember" these facts about the pussy and actively use them when time comes.

Working fine is something of an overstatement. It works, but it needs a little bit of a push to get it going. Like vauguely stating how they should react, and if that doesn't work, be less vague. Otherwise they all act like a bunch of virgins with no idea about even the concept of sex. Telling Pinkie how to use Fuck in a sentence was a wholeass conversation, and Dash saying "Fuck me yourself you coward" was more or less me fucking around and telling her to say it.
On the upside, once the shove is made they stop acting like virgins and you can get some pretty hot scenes out of it.

it doesn't do preset/prefill, so freaks out and breaks if it hits horsepussy, depending on the model
"no anon, I cannot summarize you fucking a horse"
and there is no way to define the start/end point for summarization. summaries are terrible when you throw it at the entire roleplay, it will miss nuance and be overly verbose
what i'm planning on:
summarize per message, determine any important plot points or character facts
summarize per scene, including over the individual message summaries
put plot etc into a summary, and character traits into lorebooks as they're only relevant when the character is present or being talked about

>>42369040Up until 30k-35k is manageable, but there's a very noticeable drop at around 25k.
>>42368944My experience with the summarization and long-term memory in big adventure RPs that are >2500 messages long:
- All default long-term memory schemes/prompts suck in all frontends - ST, Risu etc. Devs design something that should work in theory, but never verify that it works well in practice.
- Summarization per message is a waste of time and context, I was never able to make it work well despite trying hard, as it's really simple to automate. Believe me, I tried.
- Hierarchical memory approaches that many extensions and frontends go with also suck, they're largely useless.
- Plot/scenario/sequence of what happened is absolutely useless as a summary, it just never works. You are NOT doing this to "make the character reminisce of the past"! That's nonsense. You are doing this to update the card itself and provide a stable reference point, simplifying the history.
- The only way that works is summarization per logical breakpoint/scene, and only in a specific way (extension of the card).
- Automated summary is always poor because models still lack the foresight of a human and have no intuition in prompting themselves. You should always correct it by hand.
- Summary that is too complex will eventually make even the best models dissociate badly. It needs to be simplified and cleaned up from time to time. Some things thrown out, some added, some grouped. You can only do this manually, as only you know what you want from your RP.
- All current models get distracted by the history just 2 messages into it. Your characters drift and stop follow the definitions. Sometimes it keeps the story coherent and also makes possible characters with huge mood swings or multiple personality modes. But sometimes you want to just truncate the history, leaving only the summarized version, so your {{char}} turns back to being self. This needs to be a manual option.
- Having the card AND the summary that overrides it is an extra source of confusion for the model. Instead of this, just update the card itself! Sooner or later in a long RP you'll just have to do this anyway because the characters just drift too much as your relationships develop. ST makes it hard because you need to juggle several card versions.
- Different lore facts revealed in the process should be stored in the lorebook, but the decision should be manual because only you know if you want to make it persistent. To know which locations, NPCs, etc you revealed and what it could trigger, the model needs a separate section in the summary with one-line characteristic of each entity. You can't have too many of those, so you have to choose which ones to make persistent.
>>42369268(continued)
The how2claude guide in
>>42367418 has the right idea (ask for an "info panel" and edit it by hand) and has a very good prompt example, but it can be taken much further in a separate summarization extension that would:
>be able to update arbitrary context records (author's note, card, lorebook etc), instead of having a separate injectable summary like the current extension has.>have a convenient way to modularize the summarization prompt and the summary itself, akin to the ST prompt manager (toggle the pieces on and off)>have a convenient way to detect the scene automatically with a separate prompt, or place a scene breakpoint by hand>have a way to truncate the history tail at any arbitrary part of the roleplay manually>(THE MOST IMPORTANT PART) have a versioning system for the entire RP session!Make it so that the entire state of SillyTavern is stored per swipe and message and tied to them, so you can roll it back, fork at any point, or delete some messages without fear or having to juggle multiple copies. Your preset, your card, lorebook, author's note, QRs, preset and lorebook toggles, everything should be saved per message/swipe inside the current chat. The original copy of the card/lorebook/etc should stay untouched, so you can start a new chat from scratch if you want.
>>42369040It can't be measured in tokens, the complexity matters. But in a typical RP, anything from 20k to 30k is usually enough for the degradation to start being noticeable.

>>42369292don't worry, so are the LLMs.
>>42369292>>42369300It's much easier than it sounds.
But yeah, long roleplays is where LLMs start breaking down. The entire point of summarization is to make the model think your roleplay is actually short.
>>42369274thanks for the detailed effortpost
it also allows you two lorebooks now - one for the card, one for the specific chat. thoughts on how the two should be used?
>>42369322>thoughts on how the two should be used?Exactly how I said above and probably exactly how you imagine it - store the lore revealed in the process, and have a few one-liners somewhere to remind that these records exist. That's the OG way to use the lorebooks since they were introduced. The only thing is that the lorebook record can be generated by the model and adjusted by hand - this probably could be automated.
>>42369349(I mean the chat-specific lorebook. The card lorebook should remain fixed)
>>42368944You don't use an LLM to parse the data. That's your first mistake. Build an algorithm to handle the chat history and break it down based on what an external classified indicates is the most pertinent need-to-know high-impact information and events. Then isolate those and continue self-sorting with simple filters (is it a sex scene? If so, skip. is this a new character? If so, save to summary.) until you get your final dataset to THEN have AI summarize. Then have it run every 5, 10 or 15 messages.

>>42369554>Build an algorithm to handle the chat history and break it down based on what an external classified indicates is the most pertinent need-to-know high-impact information and events. What external classifier? Are you suggesting doing an NLP task programmatically or training an external classifier? Both are ludicrous. The simple chunking approach works better - play through the scene, detect the change of it (manually or by making the model update the scene marker), update the categories in the existing summary. Model is smart enough to realize what you're summarizing.
>is this a new character? If so, save to summaryIt's the task for the lorebook, not summary.
The detection of "need-to-know" and "high-impact" will be total garbage, as the LLM has no idea about your future roleplay, only you can decide. I've tried that, as well as other overthought approaches and hierarchies, and it either produces junk or overly verbose results, which then needs dozens of calls and burns through millions of tokens. You don't need to save every character, you need to carefully sift through that shit and select what you gotta keep or what you need to simplify, manually.
>>42369843>External classifierI think anon meant using entirely different prompt and for summarisation, but possibly with same LLM
>>42369554I'm sceptical about scheduled execution, but had good experience with LLM itself deciding on summarisation points. For example, instructing AI to trigger summarisation tool when scene changes (and instructing AI to work with distinct scenes in general). Anyway character cards and rps are fundamentally at odds with each other and this gets especially bad with thinking models, and JBs aimed at allowing character development are a mere bandaid solution.

>>42379576>NovelAI barely has 1 or 2 people working on textgenHave those 1 or 2 people been told they're working on textgen?
>>42379654Because they don't have people nor time and their secret sauce dataset that they have been working for years didn't fix Llama. So there's zero reason to think they can fix DeepSeek. The only thing they have over DeepSeek is having dedicated shills on 4chan to do marketing.
Why didn't they make Llama great?
>>42379693their model writes really well actually, it just doesn't know anything about pony which makes it useless for me. If they fix that by making a huge model then I think it will beat deepseek
>>42379778Their model feels barely different than vanilla Llama, with all its problems. Which goes hand in hand with not having people, talent, or time. You don't need more than this to see how far they can go. They can only beat DeepSeek at marketing, in the same way Kayra punched above its weight and it was better than Claude for pony.
>>423798471, I don't agree on that having actually used local models for a time and 2. marketing? I don't think I ever saw a ad or anyone not here talk about them before

>>42379893It's hard to shill the text model when it's universally considered garbage, but it still happens from time to time away from the AI generals like in /v/. The shilling for the image model is even more intense.
https://arch.b4k.dev/v/thread/715411108/#715412384
You can tell it's a shill because no human being would tell another to spend $25 a month on Llama 3.0 with 8k context.
>>42379922sounds more like someone who has never used anything besides chatgpt, you know they exist outside of super specific generals like this. Most people use fucking characterai still
>>42379945Character.AI and ChatGPT are extremely popular. NovelAI is not, and it's more expensive than those two. You need a shill to move someone from ChatGPT to NAI and not the other options. But the person is likely a shill himself because it's bold to try to make people spend $25 a month on something that supposedly you don't know much about.
>>42379970NAI was great two years ago.
Today, you have to be insane to be using it for textgen when chub's deepseek model exists for the same "all you can eat" policy $5 cheaper, nevermind OR for those that just dabble an hour or two every few days.
Maybe they'll bring it back, but I genuinely don't see how; $25 is too much and they don't have the power to make their model / finetune standout. Their UX was neat once, but it hasn't been maintained in two years and there are a dozen open source alternatives now.
Shame.

One thing I noticed is that the API config seems to be tied to save files in some way behind the scenes. I ran into an issue where I loaded an old save that had an outdated API key. Even though the API config page showed the new key I had entered just before loading the save, the system was still using the old one until I clicked “Save Configuration” again while that save was active. Not a major issue, but it did cause a bit of confusion until I figured it out.
If possible, maybe there could be a way to force the game to reapply the current API settings when a save is loaded, instead of defaulting to whatever was active when the save was created.

But yeah, using Gemini means sending prompts to something that isn't local.
If you don't care about that, I'd say give it a shot and see the difference. If you do, nothing wrong with sticking to local if it works for you.

No matter which of my proxies I use, the damned VN chat thingamabob refuses to connect and tells me "no module named openai" even if I try connecting to gemini. Unsurprisingly the endpoints work in the tavern

slap this in your prompt somewhere
<IMMERSIVE_HTML_PROMPT>
Core Mandate: Use creative HTML as a form of visual storytelling. Do this at every opportunity
Core Rules:
World Representation: HTML represents in-world objects (screens, posters, books, signs, letters, logos, insignias, crests, plaques, seals, medallions, coins, labels, etc.), but employ HTML/CSS for anything in-world which could be represented. These can be minor details or major; integrate interactive elements into your generation.
Thematic Styling: Use inline CSS to match the theme (e.g., sleek/digitized for sci-fi, rustic/antiquated for fantasy). Text must be in context (e.g., gothic font for a medieval charter, cursive for a handwritten note) and visible against the background. You have free reign to add things such as animations, 3D renderings, pop outs, hover overs, drop downs, and scrolling menus.
Seamless Integration: Place panels in the narrative where the characters would interact with them. The surrounding narration should recognize the visualized article. Please exclude jarring elements that don't suit the narrative.
Integrated Images: Use 'pollinations.ai' to embed appropriate textures and images directly within your panels. Prefer simple images that generate without distortion. DO NOT embed from 'i.ibb.co' or 'imgur.com'.
Creative Application: You have no limits as for how you apply HTML/CSS, or how you alter the format to incorporate HTML/CSS. Beyond static objects, consider how to represent abstracts (diagrams, conceptualizations, topographies, geometries, atmospheres, magical effects, memories, dreams, etc.)
Story First: Apply these rules to anything and everything, but remember visuals are a narrative device. Your generation serves an immersive, reactive story.
CRITICAL: Do NOT enclose the final HTML in markdown code fences (```). It must be rendered directly.
