A lot of different shit. Slayer, Infection, Juggernaut, etc. Custom map/gamemode support as well. Lot's of good ol' fashioned Halo fun, plus some new custom modes as well. The server has a voting system similar to the original Halo Reach.

there are many modes. all of the slayer modes say what weapon you start with (ar, br, random, etc.) same with the ctf modes, otherwise most team modes start with brs + pistol.
the Run modes are just halo parkour, good for seeding if you're into that.
there are race maps, minigames, as well as hundreds of custom made maps.

Tuxfag here. the Steam installation didn't work, so I Installed the runtime thingy via Lutris in /home/username/Games/ElDewrito under the label of ElDewrito (in Lutris), then I opened the Lutris configuration for ElDewrito and pointed it at launcher.exe then clicked Play.

the ElDewrito installation is currently underway. I'll be joining as soon as the process is complete. ETA: 30 minutes ish.

for anyone new or experiencing frequent crashes or the game looks like blinding shit, go into your video settings and enable GPU acceleration and Bloom Patch. also you can center your crosshair and change viewmodels in game settings, while customization (name, colors) are only accessible at the main menu

>>42381854 here again. in the Lutris configuration, I forgot to set a target directory for the "working directory" field for ElDewrito, which caused the launcher.exe in the installation folder (/home/username/Games/ElDewrito/drive_c/users/steamuser/Desktop/ElDewrito) to tell me that the installation failed.

After I set the "working directory" in the Lutris config to the correct place, ElDewrito is now running and I'm in the main menu. I'll be joining the server soon(tm).

Just thought I'll leave some notes here if anyone encounters the same problems I had.

Well, I've installed the game and tried it on a random server, and while it takes ages to start a game, once it does, it runs pretty decently.
It's laggy, but incredibly well for my expectations, which were that I wouldn't even be able to move kek

I've also downloaded an ODST campaign pak file, then my internet went out while waiting for frens to join my firefight test. thankfully, the download completed before the internet outage, so I put the Halo 3 and ODST campaigns into the eldew and restarted it.

knowing that you need open ports to host a server, if you are behind a CGNAT you can't really host yourself, you pay your ISP for an static IP (by doing this they let you get directly to the internet without cgnat) or tunnle your host to a wireguard vps or whatever that has the ports open

I've tested some ports with a port checker web tool. looks like I'll have to set some port forwarding rules in my router. this will take a little while since I don't have control of the router.

these things are free forever: 150GB of disk storage, 2x x86_64 potato amd vms (2 vcpus, 2gb ram) and you host one aarch64 ampere vm (4 more potent vcpus, 24gb ram). I'm not sure the x86_64 machines can handle an eldewrito server with a reasonable number of players so focus on getting the ampere machine.

Expanding on this, wether your IP is dynamic or static doesn't matter. The problem is the CGNAT outside of your control. When you buy an static ipv4 from an isp that puts you under a cgnat you can use it freely, without the need to share with others, and do all the configurations on your own router and it should work. I don't know if you are behind a cgnat, but from your previous posts, sound like it. So i'd just confirm if i were under cgnat or not

I don't know if I'm behind a CGNAT (I don't reside in america). but I know that my external IP is dynamic and there's a "dynamic DNS" thingy that uses a FortiNet server that follows my dynamic external IP (my router is a Fortigate model, which is stuffed with security measures up the ass and beyond - altho I have to add that my computer is in the router's DMZ). that's about all I know.

H3 Campaign v7_8.pak (I played a bit of the first mission and it ran fine.)
ODST Campaign v12_7.pak (note: I tried this and CTD'd immediately after the first mission's intro cutscene. YMMV.)
Eldewrito Firefight/dew_firefight_v2_6.pak (this includes a number of maps to choose from. I tried one and it worked fine.)
put those files in Desktop/ElDewrito/mods (for Tuxfags using Lutris, that would be home/Games/ElDewrito/drive_c/users/steamuser/Desktop/ElDewrito/mods. the exact path for a Steam installation is probably a little different, but I assume you know it.)

other than that... I can join up and do some fraggin with you guys in a public server like j-company or whatever until I go to sleep. let me know and i'll hop in.

What u need to know about cgnat is that whatever u do on your side regarding ports won't mean shit unless you tunnel it to a different machine with ports already open for example, or use a vlan vpn like zerotier one (the best one for low latency). But if you choose a vlan vpn everyone would need to have it and join your network, awkward

it might not be a good idea for me to do it if it only lets you have one in the nearest location to where you are - I live in a place that's geographically bad for hosting a server intended for a global player group. I might be able to play just fine in an american server tho. I didn't do too bad when we still had the mare server. so that's an option.

It lets you pick the location and zone but you can't change it unless you pay for it (on always free tier). Also, some zones/regions might not have all the resources or as much resources as other regions/zones. See if everything you need is there when picking one

If you are going to use the virtual machines for other things other than personal use like hosting your own vpn outside of your country or just host a few services go for ashburn. Else just pick whatever you need right now. If you live in the UK i think the ping to virginia would be reasonable, something like 90ms, but i could be wrong
