I was very pissed off that Glimmer, Discord, etc. got the recurring character treatment instead of Luna.

I think a funny running gag could have been Luna's impish nature causing Celestia embarrassment not because Luna's doing anything hurtful, but because Celestia is cringing because she used to act the same way 1,000 years ago when she was just a little filly herself. I really do like S1 Luna not just because of her design, but the implications of her being a filly alicorn who's trying to not get grounded again even though her very nature makes her very mischievous.
