To me, this means that these sorts of magical properties can have adverse effects on the environment they live in and Philomena is likely of a different species of phoenix that lives in the center of the Everfree Forest rather than on its edge. This may also explain why Philomena has red feathers instead of yellow ones, since she can’t try to burn any predators that may try to hurt her if it means she may lose her home in the process and may have instead descended from a species that is evolved to scare predators off with the color of blood.
