I don't sign because I don't really see the point. If someone wants to pass off your drawing as theirs they'll erase it. If they want to emulate and pass it off as yours they'll copy and paste a signature. Half of all artist's signatures are practically unreadable, so it's not especially effective at advertising yourself unless someone already knows what your signature looks like.

Yeah! Getting started with animating is often times easier and way more fun than one would think! It's when you start trying to do really long, involved ones with high-effort frames that it becomes a curse; having to draw hundreds of finished pictures for only one piece of art. But it's still exciting and mostly fun, even then.

Kirin do have enough sexual dimorphism for you to make a mistake. All kirin with no eyelashes have horn arrows pointing in different directions in front (some of them have one continuous angled line rather than two separate arrows). And conversely all kirin with any kind of protruding eyelashes have arrows pointing in one direction, usually up.

they really can be but once you review some artwork you see the connection and it gets easier. just try to remember when you do the nose to continue it backwards and build it into the mouth. keep at it though, that pony looks like its having a great time.

Hiding and skipping BG stuff that's behind the foreground is how I do it too. One just has to makes sure the visible background stays connected and makes sense.
I think your background conveys the perspective really well with the little hills in the foreground, and the treetops that peek up around Raindrops just further strengthens that feeling of perspective as the mind fills in a whole cozy little forest behind her.
The house looks great, all it's shapes and lines are very precise and neat, and the colors are very show appropriate; desaturated but pastel, light and nice!
If the bg was fairly easy to make, then it is certainly a very effective one, because to me it sets the scene very well, and the well drawn house with it's pretty turf roof gives the feeling that the world in the back is just as living and important as the pretty mare up front.

These faces never sit right with me, but I'm also unable to figure out what is making them look strange! It's probably the 3/4 angle snoots with their respective up and down head-tilts that are fucking me up.
With the unicorn on the left I'm having a hard time making her not look chubby. Maybe her entire face is on an incorrect sideways tilt which makes the cheek facing us look too puffed up? And with Pinkie I have no idea. I think it might be the short snoot and the mouth?

I thought this was a beginner drawfag thread almost every pic I'm seeing in here looks far past the beginning stage. I was prepared to be humbled when I stepped in here but I wasn't prepared to get beat into the fucking ground. Seems like everyone just does everything better than me.

guess it really depends on your standards and what you consider beginner work or not. the vast vast majority of the posts in thread are beginner works. But of course you cannot ignore the low effort part or /BALE/ as well, so occasionally not beginner artists doing what they consider to be low effort work post in here from time to time. also consider the fact everyone starts off at a different level and will have certain strengths and weaknesses when starting out, for some people do good with anatomy right off the bat for example but struggle with line quality, color choices, composition, lighting, etc, etc. It's easy to compare yourself to others and fairly common place, but what matters the most is how you deal with those emotions and the actions you take based off those emotions. Instead of saying "oh wow my art fucking sucks compared to X's art!" ask " how can I incorporate what I like from X's art into my own?" or use it as a tool of comparison to understand what you are doing wrong "X's art has the legs bending Y way and it looks better/more natural compared to my own how can I improve on my leg anatomy and Implement that knowledge into my own art?". you are the only person holding yourself back with such a mentality, I did the same for a while and I regret it. people do not care nearly as much about technical skill as you think, though it does play a role its not the be all end all. what matters the most is whether or not the content hits home with them or not there are plenty of successful artists in and outside the fandom with less than stellar technical work that find a niche and an audience that loves their work and what they do despite having the technical skills of a 5 year old snorting meth.

Not sure what this threads stance in Tamers is but I drew one of his characters (Marionette) as a fusion of Darth Nihilus/Darth Sion (from KotOR 2), if you know the character than the connection is clear. But if you don't basically she wears a white mask, like Nihilus and has exposed muscle tissue like Sion. This is probably the best thing I've ever drawn, so far anyway.

The recent discourse here has got me thinkin. I'm the guy who drew the carl/trix/glimmer pic, been drawing ponies for around 1.5 years. Been posting here since this is the best I could do. I definitely think I've improved a lot since then and now that I think about it, I admit I've posted stuff here that probably wouldn't be considered beginner or low effort. Didn't give it much consideration before now, I've just always posted my art here and it's gotten better over time. I've always loved the creativity and diversity of this thread, and sharing my random drawings, it never really crossed my mind that I'd be "too good" for bale. If someone reaches a certain level with their art, should they stop sharing it here? This has been my favorite thread pretty much since I discovered it, but the last thing I want to do is discourage people or make them feel small

I'd say junk is not far forward enough, I think. Ponies don't stand up on hind legs like people. Penor goes into tummy along the axis of pone. Normally it would be tucked up safely between his hind legs, but he is stretched out pretty far forward here with his rear legs behind his body. Maybe move wiener and balls up along axis of pone so it looks like it is coming out of his belly instead of just an extra piece tacked on underneath him?

I think I agree with >>42463570 on B. Like an anon said earlier, the natural angle of stallion penis is the same direction as the body, and the base of the shaft is directly anchored to the belly above it, so the upward angle makes the most sense.
And while some proper, defined bulge is good to show how deep you are going, and I'm really not that knowledgeable about it myself, I'd at least make the end of it less sharp. It kind of looks like it's just under her skin instead of inside her throat. The esophagus is actually behind even the windpipe, so it's more towards middle of the neck than one might imagine.

Practice, practice, and more practice. Sounds cheesy, but thats all there is to it when it comes to the basic shapes. It also depends on how big the shapes are, usually, at least for me, the bigger the shape, the more of your arm you have to use. Wrist is for small and detail strokes, hand is for medium and more losely stokes, and full arm is for big shapes that are not meant to be perfect (usually for sketches and whatnot). I just use the tools paint tool sai has for that kinda shit, hell for circles I just set my brush to the size I want then plop it where the fuck I feel like on the canvas. Much faster than freehanding and hell even faster than using than elipsis tool. For squares and shit either the rectangle tool or the perspective grid. Fuck freehanding shit especially with a mouse, which is how I draw.

Think of it like loading a spring. His pose has sharper overall bends so it looks like there's power to it. Sharp angles are more dynamic

To understand better you're looking at more than one line of action, the first one in Red is usually the general movement of the spine down to the leg

it is hard both physically and mentally not gonna sit here and romanticize it and make it sound like the most amazing shit ever. doing shit by hand requires not only skill but a fuck load of dedication, also a shit fuck load of time, and an unfucking godly amount of raw material. but goddamn do I find it so fucking rewarding. I know by the time its done that I'm gonna value it and take care of it like no other possession I currently own. I also really like the challenge because it forces me to problem solve and learn and I really enjoy that. I was struggling to visualize this yesterday but after literally acting the pose out a bit I think I see what you mean. Since the twising motion of the legs comes from the hip joint, we should see her "knee" sorta face the viewer, even point leftwards instead of right like I drew it. Very good point, and thanks. I was thinking of trying it but I skimmed through the course and a couple yt vids of people going through it and I think it really would kill the joy I have for drawing. Personal opinion but I think the "draw 1000 circles and boxes and only then you'll be ready to draw" approach in learning, with artificial exercises like that, doesn't really work. I might be also misrepresenting it since I haven't really delved past the first couple courses.
If you do feel like you need that structure and a sense that you're progressing through completing the challenges then it might be a thing for you.

honestly it just depends on where you find your enjoyment for drawing. repetitive exercises can be good for some, but people like me get more mileage of turning a drawing into it's own lesson, i.e. practicing anatomy or perspective via more focusing drawings. nothing to lose from trying drawabox, but fun stuff is a good motivator too

How can I improve my anatomy?

study show screenshots more and dissect them thoroughly. your main issue seems to be proportions and leg anatomy so focus primarily on that for now. the head for show style ponies is always the biggest circle on the body with the ass coming in second and the chest/barrel third. the hooves should roughly be about half the diameter of the chest, I think airing on the thicker side might be a better option for you or may I suggest measuring I measured out my circles in pixels for convenience. you can see how I broke down the leg into basic bone structure, each circle is a joint and each line a bone. all ponies have 4 joints but depending on the angle you won't be able to see the 4th one. I would suggest keeping a picture of a horse skeleton with on hand to remind you of the leg anatomy and joint placement to have as a reference. also a suggestion having the ponies head and body facing slightly towards what they are looking at creates a little more visual draw and looks nicer than having them face the viewer dead on, also gives them more visual depth. keep in mind mine is slightly stylized and not totally show accurate, I like big ears. sorry for the book.

Nah that's just a problem inherent to making ponies 3d while trying to keep them show accurate. Literally anyone and everyone who's ever tried to render pony in 3d has struggled with it because the 2d model doesn't translate to 3d at all. The only way you can keep it show accurate is by morphing and moving the models parts around to get the right look, see djthead for example.
