That general design for helmest is pretty common across many cultures especially those with swords as the fluff on top is mean to stop sword blows from directly striking the top of the head and causing head injuries under the helmet. Thought they're not exactly of that style from a design perspective they can look to resemble a mane which could make equestria far more likely to have that particular design on their helmets

The Royal Guard armor is based on the traditional hoplite armor the Greeks had and is likely carrying on the Greek theme the pegasi have going on, given their mythological origin.

Speaking of, the Greeks also had the mythical Hyperborea, a utopian paradise in the far north, beyond the realm of the griffons, inhabited by a peaceful race that knew no war or disease and who worshiped Apollo (the Sun god). Sound kind of familiar?
