What was just later show creators not adhering to the original vision for the character. Faust herself said that Rainbow Dash was not gay in opposition to the current trend that girls who are into thinks like sports and fighting are gay. Straight girls are allowed to be 'masculine'; it doesn't mean their gay or trans or anything.
