Well I'll spoonfeed, since I support some people using Macs and therefore occasionally I use macOS as well.
The shortcut for taking a screenshot of whole screen is Cmd + Shift + 3, no additional software required. Not as intuitive as simply pressing Print Screen key on Windows or most Linux/BSD desktop environments, I know.
I hope you remember this OP, since making photos of computer screen with your phone makes you look dumb by default.

Cmd + Shift + 4 is superior. Activates capture mode, then you click and drag over the part of screen you want to capture. How often do you want the entire display field? Almost never and this saves you the need to crop.
