I like the ones from the first two seasons, but they still could be better. I think they were pretty annoying, but kids in real life are SUPER annoying, so it’s pretty realistic. But still, maybe they could’ve benefited from a “straight man” character, which means the one that acts less crazy than the rest, nothing to do with sexuality or gender or age, it’s just what people call it. But yes, the CMCs are good to me. Don’t like them in later seasons, especially not after they got their Cutie Marks. They were less traditionally annoying, but they were devoid of personality and just a waste of time. (My opinion.)

/mlp/ used to absolutely HATE CMC episodes, but the new pedo thirdies that got internet access after 2020 don't know that.

As a CMC appreciator...fair, honestly.
They were always held back a little in what was done. Best ones were H&H Day and Cutie Pox, so sadly the CMC peaked early.

Some other Anon mentioned that they got worse after earning their CMs, and honestly, their eps really did get pretty freaking dry. They even got shoved aside in School Raze for no damn reason. Like, I get it, we gotta give the Student 6 a lotta limelight because it's "their" season, but c'mon, support roles are still a thing y'know.

There's also the 3-headed-pony problem. They always acted in a group so often, with such similar goals, that they lack some of the individuality that each separate Mane 6 have. Bloom probably had the most solo eps, but they were all focused on getting a cutie mark/growing up, so once she got her mark...all that solo character building evaporated. Scoot, despite having less eps, fared better; we actually know she wants to do cool stunts and put on an "awesome" show, and not in a way that makes her a direct copy of RD. Sweetie got shafted though; her solo eps always revolve around her relationship with Rarity. Thus, all we know about Sweetie is...she wants to have a good relationship with Rarity. Not bad on its own, but like...what else does Sweetie wanna do in life? There's stuff in the background that suggests music, but we never see it front and center.

Oh and don't get me started on Growing Up is Hard to Do.
Abysmal episode; in the top 10 worst of the series, and might be the single worst of Season 9.
Premise that was not only outdated by Season 4 - causing character assassination - but was incredibly contrived for Equestria; a world where the Crusaders were free-range children in all other eps, and have even been shown to manage a summer camp without adult supervision.
THE worst sendoff to these characters that could've possibly been done.

That said though,
All this might honestly be part of why I love writing CMC fics. They're fun characters, but they had such massive under-usage in the show that there's still plenty of more crazy/intense stories that can be done with them.
