Since you seem somewhat sincere, anon, I'll tell you my opinion: I feel like at this point those multicolor bars not-a-country flags have become the symbol of, well, certain kind of people and their subsets. I would prefer normal people to not think of that other kind of people when they see a pony flag. I don't feel particularly opposed to those people, but bringing that topic seems to always bring drama, no matter which side you approach it from. Ponies are less divisive, I would say. Either you like them or you don't, that's okay, that doesn't make (You) a terrible person according to a group of people if you select the "wrong" option.
In all honesty, pic rel (or a 4cc variant if I'm remembering things correctly) is a flag that I don't think can be mistaken for anything else. It's pony through and through. I don't think there's a need or benefit to degrade from this unique design to almost generic "certain kind of people" flag.
