All these ponies forced in later to make Twilight seem like she actually can make and have friends, even though her character was never about that. She was never the princess of friendship or princess of making friends. She was the magic leader of the elements of harmony.
She discovered the magic of friendship, not friendship making. I kind of like the episode where they go back to the first episode and try to reform Twilight and her old friend group she didn't care about. But I only like it for the Colgate scene where she's taking a selfie with her, the whole thing would have been better if it was a season 3 episode and didn't involve PRINCESS Twilight Sparkle. And the point should have been to allow Twilight to move on and learn that she doesn't need to be friends with everyone and that she was never going to be friends with these ponies in Canterlot and that's okay.
Twilight is not a social pony, not a friendly outgoing pony. But she still made friends with the mane 6 because of how friendly they are and how commit they were to her.
