the biggest thing id say sucks with vrc is the lack of actual customisation in that it doesn't have a marketplace for clothing/accessories like SL does, its more like you either make clothes yourself or use the preset clothes for the avatar which is usually either a hoodie and shorts or kink gear

A lot of people just hate spending IRL money on a game on principle.
SL is different in that most content is user-made, so you're not buying "virtual pixels" made by some corporation whose employees are already fully salaried, but rather you're paying actual people for their time spent creating the item (and you're welcome to create something similar yourself if you'd prefer spending time rather than money). For new players who aren't familiar with how SL works this can be unintuitive to grasp.
But even taking that into account, still not everyone wants to put in their real credit card details into a weird boomer company website. At least for me, there's still a kind of psychological barrier between just virtual fun that has no IRL consequences, and "virtual" things that actually cost me IRL money.

Now of course if you hang around sploders you can easily make enough money to buy a good amount of pony things and accessories (if you don't go too overboard), and the economy is circular and tight-knit enough that it's often very viable to make a couple of decent items of your own and get enough sales to fund the rest of your shopping. These are the actual arguments in favour of SL's economy. Meanwhile "lol it's cheap, poorfag" is a much, much worse argument to convince anyone to give it a try.

Vrchat is like if all the good parts of sl were removed and all the bad parts are optimized to be bad faster. Customization sucks, building sucks, no normal pony body, child userbase, more isolated, more rules, no rezzing objects freely, and so much more. SL is old and jank but anyone can use it. There's tons of free things, there's easy ways to make lindens, and the normie users are mostly old people instead of literal children. Vrchat is just different all together. Good question, I'm not sure. There's no account property for it. The default mesh avatar may be detectable, but given almost nobody ever uses it for anything whatsoever (especially among ponies), it's very likely to just be the default which is either male or random (I forgot what it's set to when creating the account).
As the other anon said, if the player hasn't renamed their body, by default the OP body has "mare" or "stallion" in the name. Most people won't bother renaming anything, but some definitely will for one reason or another.

The wage cage has a stronger grip on me than ever before, my hours really picked up at work so I have little free time left to popen around. What time I do have is spent on balti event responsibilities, preparing for mare fair, hobbies like drawing pic related, and gaming with other powy. I'd be willing to put effort into helping establish a new colony somewhere together with the rest of the herd but it would be quite the monstrous task and it simply wouldn't be the same.
Those other grids that you can use with the normal SL viewer are by far not as developed and there is barely stuff available there (of course since they lack the gigantic decades worth of stuff you can buy on Linden's marketplace) so you'd constantly have to make stuff from scratch, even the most basic things. A huge uphill battle. It may sound thrilling and exciting but I think most would get tired quick from having to start all over and then the experience is way worse than it used to be with a fraction of stuff to do at all compared to Linden's SL. At that point it would probably be a better idea to start a colony on a completely different platform but to be honest they all suck so much more.

The mane six in the show are very distinct, yet what sets them apart visually can be freckles and a hat (that's it), a unique colour combination (or the lack of it for Pinkie), very defined lashes or in Flutter's case just a very long mane/tail.

A nose ring, freckles, multicoloured mane, eye-shadow/lashes, a worn accessory, unique light spots on the eyes, defined hooves and that nose spot are quite a lot of things. Excessive fluff especially in the ears is also a very furry thing to have

The whoreshadow doesn't really fit your colourscheme IMO. A slightly more understated eyeshadow would go a long way to make you look elegant rather than whoreish
Snout spots are cute but when you make it pink like that it just makes you look like a cow, consider just using a lighter/darker version of your coat. Dallas for example probably has the prettiest snout spot (but of course you don't have to copy what she did... just try to look less cow-y is all.)
Tiny hooves are very meh unless you're a deer or you've built an entire pony in lolita fashion style IMO, but I realise this is down to preference so if you really want tiny hooves then sure go ahead
