EQG Stream
"We are Playing UT 2004!" Edition

>what's this?
An EQG-only Cytube stream, where we rewatch the show, the fan content, and have fun with various activities, and everyone's invited!
>Cytube
https://cytu dot be/r/EQG-Stream
>when?
Next Sunday, August 17th, at 4PM UTC.
Keep in mind that it will start an hour earlier than the last one.
>Countdown
https://www.tickcounter.com/countdown/7841122/eqg-stream
>what are we watching this time?
We'll try to save the shorts for when we go to rewatch everything again from scratch, for now we'll focus on the specials in chronological order:
>"Equestria Girls IDW Holiday Special" (WubCake made a very decent dub)
>"Dance Magic", "Movie Magic" and "Mirror Magic"
>"Forgotten Friendship"
And expect at least 4 hours of fan content!
>segment? Unreal Tournament 2004?
Yeah!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMOBd4Z2f-Y
I was thinking we could play UT2004 in the middle of the stream as a segment, considering there's a mod with EQG skins along with other pony mods, it's free, easy to install, and runs well on any PC and internet!
It wouldn't last long in the queue, which doesn't mean those who join can't continue playing with the stream in the background.
It would be cool if someone offered to stream it; nothing serious or elaborate, just capture the gameplay so I can embed it on Cytube.

Installing Unreal Tournament 2004
>download the game here
https://archive.org/details/ut2004-3369
>extract the zip file and move the UT2004 folder to C:/UT2004
>open the folder and run UT2004.reg
>go to https://keyfrag.surge.sh/ and copy a new CDkey
>edit the UT2004.reg file on the notepad
>edit the "CDKey"="XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX" part inserting your new key
>run the UT2004.reg again
>play the game through the UT2004.exe file in the "System" folder
that's it
you can play with the "ut2004-win64.exe" too, but it has some issues, you can check that stuff in the archive.org where you downloaded the game if you are into that

>EQG Dedicated Server?
Of course!
>open the game and press "~" in the game menu for opening the game console
>paste the following:
open 172.237.54.144
>press enter
If "~" doesn't open the console for you, try "`", "Tab", "Β°", or "Γ±"
It depends on your keyboard configuration

>Mods?
Yeah!
But unfortunately you have to install the skin pack mod manually in order to have each character in your menu and select it.
It's very simple:
>download the file
>extract it
>you'll notice that there will be files inside folders with names like "System", "Textures", etc.
>the name of the folder where the file is located is the same name as the folder where you should paste the file inside.
for example:
>copy the file "eg_girls.upl" from the "System" folder
>go to C:/UT2004
>go to the "System" folder
>paste it there
that's it
>EQG Skins (Mane 6 + Vinyl) Shimmybros...
https://gamebanana.com/mods/233089
Go to "settings," then "player" and "Change Character" and also your username
You can do this in-game by just pressing "Esc" and following the same steps.

>Other mods (They will automatically download when you enter the server)
>Rainbow Factory Map
https://gamebanana.com/mods/56553

https://gamebanana.com/mods/35898
>Cutie Mark Team Symbols (Mane 6 + Celly and Luna, uncolored)
https://www.mediafire.com/?7869jrv4d2vjxc7
>Sunny Town Map ("Story of the Blanks" map, we probably won't play this one but it's mlp-related enough)
https://gamebanana.com/mods/56767

>what gamemodes will we play?
Deathmatch is a must, especially for the Rainbow Factory map and because it doesn't depend on the number of players in the match.
Not playing Capture the Flag would be a waste, given the team symbols mods.
also it would be funny a CTF with full RDs vs. full AJs, for example
And any other mode/map is fine, depending on what you guys are up to.

>are there plans for future mods?
Sure. More characters like Sunset and the Dazzlings would be great, and proper voice packs for each character too!
My dream is to be killed by an Sonata and hear "Too bad, so sad!"
Still, the part about which models to use is pending. It would be great if someone could make or commission low-poly models inspired by the skins we already have, and not use the modern GTA:SA models.
Any help with this is welcome!

>so, is this the /mlp/ UT2004 thread now?
Nah, not at all. This is just meant as a segment of this particular stream, to spice it up a bit.
If there's no interest, we'll just not do it and forget about it.
I'd just like to do fun activities with you guys from time to time. It would help give each stream a special touch, not make us so dependent on fan content or just "rewatching stuff endlessly," and the options are very vast!
Other ideas for future activities are always welcome!

Also, if you want to listen to the music from the Rainbow Factory map, you have to download this ogg file and put it in the Music folder in C:/UT2004.
https://u.pone.rs/bmybepfh.ogg
I'm working on installing a custom mutator so everyone can download the custom map music upon entering.
I'm also looking for (or trying to create) a custom mutator so we can use and randomize the cutie mark team symbols in team gamemodes.

Aaaaand you can add and play your own music in-game!
Just convert your music to .ogg format and put it in a folder in C:/UT2004.
https://convertio.co/es/mp3-ogg/
Then, when you're in the game, press f11 and there you can manage your playlists

It's not that difficult, but honestly, I was more concerned with getting the skins working on the server and figuring out if there was actually a way for you guys to download the entire mod upon joining the server than creating mods from scratch.
And I'll admit it, I didn't know anything about modding, servers, or UT until a week ago lol

The files you download when you log in aren't the files to have the skins at your disposal, but rather what you need to be able to see the other skins, regardless of whether you have the mod or not. That's normal.
>>42458956
Sometimes they don't appear, and you have to change the skin to make them appear, like refreshing.
And the skin changes every time you die, try changing the skin and kill yourself.
I'm in rn and I see my skin

I don't know shit about Linux, but according to what https://archive.org/details/ut2004-3369 says, the Linux executables are already included: ut2004-bin and ut2004-bin-linux-amd64.
Create a .txt file called "cdkey" with your cdkey inside (use https://keyfrag.surge.sh/ ) and place it in the "System" folder.

As for now I tried with the 64 bit binary and it works well.
Of course the file (ut2004-bin-linux-amd64) must be set as executable (sudo chmod +x UT2004/System/ut2004-bin-linux-amd64).
On Gentoo, it complained about libcaca not being installed, it was solved by just installing the package (sudo emerge --ask --verbose --quiet libcaca), I didn't add any USE flags to the make.conf file nor any files inside /etc/portage/package.use since it didn't give me any problems without them (USE="X ncurses opengl truetype -doc -imlib -slang -static-libs -test" ABI_X86="(64) -32 (-x32)"). It didn't complain for libstdc++ because that's a package bundled with GCC and since it's Gentoo you'll need it for an everyday use.
But, if your distro doesn't have GCC installed by default it can be installed with your package manager:
>On Debian it can be installed with APT:
>(Of course check for updates before installing)
root@yourcomputer~# apt install build-essential
>but why not just "libstdc++5"?
It got deprecated on Debian, you can install "libstdc++6" but I can't check if it works.
>On Arch Linux it can be installed with Pacman, First check for updates and then type:
user@yourcomputer~$ sudo pacman -Sy gcc
>Or you can use the AUR package called "lib32-libstdc++5 3.3.6-9" I can't check if it works.
>On Fedora it is installed with DNF, check for updates and then install it:
user@yourcomputer~$ sudo dnf install gcc
>libstdc++5 got deprecated in Fedora too, there's "compat-libstdc++-33.i686" but I can't check if it works or not.

I actually didn't make the model, I found it online and it was originally made for GTA SA:

Sorry, Shimmybros, I won't stop trying to finish it (the mod will exist, that's for sure), but there's no way I can have it ready for tomorrow (even so, I'll try to stay up all night trying).

Don't forget to install UT2004 if you haven't already and are interested!
>about skins
It's likely that when you first enter the server, your skin won't be visible to others, even if it was already selected.
A quick and easy fix is to reselect the character as soon as you enter the match, and when you eventually die, you'll spawn with the skin loaded correctly.
If you want to be sure, switch to a different character than the one you're using, die, and then switch back to the one you want (and when you respawn, it will take effect).

I had to go through a bunch of bollocks to convert the model, but then couldn't get the textures to load, did also lower the amount of vertices as much as I could in Blender first. If I had more time, I could maybe do it, but I only gave it a try last night when very sleep deprived so eh.

Dance Magic was a bit too rushed for my taste, but it's fun!
It's also always good to see these cuties
Although Zappie not being there was a bummer for me.

Fantastic stream again OP, these have both been really fun
I am needing to head out for a bit but hopefully UT might be still going later, that was an excellent addition. Thanks for going through the trouble of setting it up, I had a lot of fun with that in particular

Thanks you OP, I'm guessing with what we have left, it'll take at least 2 more streams to go through EQG entirely.

Damn stream went wayyy faster than the last one, still good though. Thanks for the stream OP, looking foward to the next one.

Thanks to you all for joining!
I apologize for not being able to be active during the last part of the stream or join you in UT
irl stuff happened and barely allowed me to do a goodbye poll.
But yeah, that was fun!
I can't wait for the next one!
Maybe September 14th? It's the midpoint between today and the anniversary.

Also, here's the playlist for today that was queued at the beginning:

The last four videos were added along the way, I'm not going to bother putting them where they ended up because I forgot lol

Oh, and the UT2004 EQG server will continue to be active, it's not a one-time thing
Maybe I'll make a thread specifically for that in a few days to see if other anons want to join even though it's >nohooves, and schedule dates to populate the server.
I would also like to make voice packs mods for each character and eventually make an Sunset skin
Stay tuned!

You can use this thread while it's alive to schedule and play btw

That could work, might need to make another thread by then because this one will either get slid off by then or be so close to bump limit after about a month that a new thread would be needed anyway.
Also, I had fun! Thank you, OP.
