I dunno why they retconned it. It made sense to me that the Grand Army of the Republic, grown in labs as commodities and assets, who follow orders from the highest echelons of power, would have a failsafe if the Chancellor or Senates life was in danger. And it didn't matter if they were friends with the Jedi, because ultimately they were deemed a threat to the Republic. To them the Chancellor was a victim of a horrible assassination attempt that left him "scarred and deformed" only saved by Anakin Skywalker. Logically as Palpatine manipulates Anakin into believing, the Jedi would try to storm the palace and overwhelm them with numbers. Hes strong but hes not taking down the temples worth of Jedi.

I for one enjoyed the 2008 CW. I think both 2003 and 2008 hold up pretty well, even if 2008 made some questionable episodes. Maybe I have a soft spot for it, since the two shows made me love the clones so darn much, but are we really gonna let some bad episodes ruin a decent show?

People who like 2008 CW haven't watched it, all of it, in it's entirety recently. 90% of that show is rancid filler stuffed with scenes like Gungans beating Greivous into submission.

A couple of arcs being decent doesn't make the whole show good.
Anonymous No.42465889 >>42465921
>>42465871
Disagree with the 90% filler part, but I do agree there is more filler than there should be that is still pretty decent, and epsidoes which were entertaining but questionable. That episode with Grevious is one of those and honestly I kinda hate how they hype Grevious up in the show then gets his ass kicked over and over again, and the fights aren't even close. 2003 knew how to treat Grevious, although I dislike how Windu choked him at the end. Why can't all Jedi do that? Why not Ani or Obi?

To force choke a living being like Greivous as Mace did would be to brush against the Dark Side of the Force. Mace was able to do it because he's used to feeling the pull of the Dark Side (and resisting it) when he uses Vapaad, most Jedi wouldn't be able to do that. Also in the book Shatterpoint Mace fought Greivous before in a proper duel but Mace ended up fleeing because he got scared shitless as he could see Greivous learning to use Vapaad as they fought(2003 CW is part of the CWMMP which Shatterpoint is part of so they're connected), and in 2003 he didn't want to take any chances so he just Force Crushed him which turned him into RotS Greivous.
Anonymous No.42465930 >>42465947
>>42465921
I had a feeling it had something to do with vapaad, but I am a little sad that we got that information via a source outside of the 2003 show itself. With that in mind, the fact that Grevious was such a threat to Mace that he just didn't want to take any chances in the type of thing I wanted to see in 2008.

Also the Multi-Media Project was awesome. Thank you Glimmerfag!

I know, right? RotS was showing you the dangers of black-and-white thinking: "I'm a patriot, you're a tyrant. I'm a loyalist, you're a traitor." Like the whole thing about the clone troopers was that they were quelling a rebellion against the government. They were following orders like they were trained to, and from their perspective, they would've been the loyal dutiful soldiers fighting against traitors. They wouldn't have needed those chips.

While I agree with you guys for the most part, I still think this doesn't explain how quickly they were willing to kill their generals. Even the most steadfast follower of a regime needs some time to think if there comrade they fought with is part of the so called rebellion. With the chips, that explains their also rabid behavior, even if it does take away the thematic element aformentioned by you two anons.

When did people start liking Clone Wars anyway? I remember being a kid in 2008, and all I ever heard back then was how much it sucked and how inferior it was to the original 2003 Clone Wars. Now I start hearing about it again years later, and it seems like in most places, people opinions have turned around and they love the Filoni Clone Wars. When did this change in opinions happen? This shit was near universally reviled back then.

I do remember thinking the episode with the commando droids, the giant monster, and Grievous's lair were really cool as a kid. The commando droids were badass as hell and it felt nice for the battle droids to not be treated as a joke for once, and watching Grievous slowly work his way through a squad of clones and pair of jedi like a slasher movie villain was one of the first times in the series he didn't completely feel like a saturday morning cartoon villain.

I didn't notice the Dave Filoni worship until 2018/2019 thereabouts. The general liking of the Clone Wars coincided with that, and it was probably mostly as a response to the sequel trilogy being so bad, that and the kids who were of the age when the Clone Wars was on television was starting to get more on the internet and make their opinions known. A lot of older fans still aren't big on the show, especially those that liked the old multimedia project back in the day, since it basically bulldozed over that entire continuity. But the age group it was intended for growing up is probably the main reason the shift seemed to happen.

This makes it seem like he's firing through said shield. How is it so hard for nu-writers to come up with cool shit like this? It's the bare minimum for a character like him.

First, because it takes effort to think of something clever and writters would rather make an intelligent character go "all part of my plan" as it was stated before
Second, because i think nu-writters hate being cool and overthink stuff too much. instead of writting a cool and simple battle their minds go "hmmmm but this isn't realistic, they wouldn't attack this way its dumb, they would be flanking this side and..." OR they go overboard and try to force a cool moment e.g hyperspace ramming

2008 Clone Wars series was legitimately banging, heaps of Darth Maul / Grievous / Sheev / Ventress / Count Dooku. kino stuff, Anakin as a Vader in the making. Even some Yoda, Ahsoka would force jump a heap an ability rare used in the films. Jabba the hutts momma, vampire planet of slavers.
The clones would take off their helmets and actually have personalities
The only boring episodes where the ones where they'd go to some planet as peacekeepers & help some civilian aliens fight the droids.
