Vinyl being associated with the clubbing drinking culture is expected. Tavi being associated with the "tortured artist" drinking wasn't necessarily expected (it absolutely was), but can you really blame people for making the connection? Besides, János Starker (one of the best cellists ever) drank scotch like a fish, so really, what to expect?

My headcanons change a bunch but I typically view Octy as a well to do mare with a large talent for music, particularly classical.
She thrives in a profession better suited to and dominated by unicorns, both for their race's usual higher status than the others and because instruments are easier to play with telekinesis.
She's a bit of an outcast but also revered, this exclusion has made her cool and aloof, and socializing with high class ponies as made her come off as overly professional.
She has an elegant attractiveness to her, svelte and refined, unusual for an earthpony, which many forget she is until they notice she's missing a horn.
Very much unicorn coded, where as I see Vinyl as earthpony coded because I love that contrast between them.
