The point is that it's a symptom. The reason why there's a relatively small semi-offboard community that has significantly adjusted the culture of the board is because there's nothing new to work with and that meant things started slowing down, people started leaving and that kind of incestuous culture was easier to build. It's the same experience that anyone who's been in a /vg/ general for long enough has seen - once the game stops getting updates it just becomes a circlejerk. This board's too big to become a true circlejerk but it's clearly headed in that direction and the reason is pretty obvious, it's not because of posters you dislike, it's because the thing that brought us all here is over.

Like I said in the post this is in reply to, I think creative output being locked down to just a couple generals ultimately hurts it for some of the reasons you describe in your argument with that other anon. Boards thrive when there's interplay between the average poster and people creating OC, when the OC gets cordoned off then you usually see output drop off due to lack of feedback and an increase in cliquey behavior which is exactly what you describe. In an ideal world shitscribble artists would show up in random threads and have fun making contextually relevant stuff in them since that's what makes people actually remember threads, but most threads are low-quality which makes artists not be interested in them and instead they stay to their generals which promote staying in their generals and so on. It's a complicated mess and I don't see any easy solution.
