Does anyone have Amazon Prime rips of FiM? Amazon encodes are the best when it comes to major streaming platforms, but for whatever reason no one has archived FiM from it.
I found this comparison on desu which shows how good Amazon is at keeping small details and dynamic scenes.

Is there any place that has them? Strange that no one decided to archive the best possible quality of the show. Yayponies never bothered and its owner trooned out so that ship has sailed. Public torrents only have Netflix rips which are worse as you can see in the comparison above.

I own the actual german bluray, pic related is a screenshot of it, ama.
Season 1 has PAL speedup, the show runs faster and the voices are higher as a result, you have to fix it with transcoding and it's a pita.

Also, it does have english stereo audio, but they completely fucked up the quality in some episodes like swarm of the century, so it's not always usable.

That clocks these as less than 500MB on average...

Even when I was doing anime autist encoding that was pushing it for quality, even with HEVC.
For reference, here is that image from earlier ripped from the bluray, if your image is accurate i still see a ton of artifacting, I really hope they just didn't transcode these from the same files that the studio handed to Apple for iTunes...

It is, but you may could probably achieve what they did by just running the iTunes files through high settings with nvenc's 10 bit HEVC encoder to be honest. I know I can at least match it and go smaller if I use x265 and OPUS for audio.

If they are still using AC3 and/or AAC for audio then that means that the video must be absolutely starved for bitrate. The audio streams alone are like 100MB.

You have to be autistic to really care about the visual differences between any of the encodings seen in this thread. To most people, a low-quality YouTube rip looks just fine. Why would a company spend money streaming a high-bitrate version if they can get away with a low-bitrate one?

There are plenty of autists in this community who would pay for something done right. But Hasbro hates making money, so we're never going to have the version we really want.

Any encoder tuned for animation is going to eat shit trying to allocate bandwidth for this, so it really is worst case scenario.
It would be better to compare something else, I've found the color gradients in their eyes to be a good place to look for blocking.

The HEVC 10-Bit encoder when properly tuned with Opus audio could realistically bring all episode sizes down to ~350MB without losing any quality over the iTunes AVC files.

AVC reference is the iTunes rip from YayPonies, HEVC is from the torrent.

To me neither are amazing, but there is a lot more blocking in the Amazon HEVC file.
Look at the gradients in the red cloud.
