There was another limit added:

And that's the one that usually messes with people.
My guess is that one of your saves has more context than the other.
To make sure, start a new game and see if you have the same problem.
To fix this, you need to limit your context. I'd set it to around 50,000 if you regen a lot, or 80–90,000 if you don't mind waiting a minute between regens.
You can also try saving before and doing a resume by clicking the book, or export your story as a .txt, create a summary in Silly or in an official interface, and then import it back into your save.

It's not super consistent with actually putting his sprite on screen at the start of a scene and I have to remind it with stuff like <Add King Sombra to the scene> but that's not abnormal in my experience. Happens fairly frequently to any character, just more often with these weird instructions.

I'm still trying to figure out why the VN is losing info/not remembering things.

In a bid to try and save time, instead of ending a chat, I would change characters and locations. For example, I started a chat with Rainbow Dash, had Luna join, then moved to the Ponyville market, started a chat with Rarity, then went to her boutique, then left her boutique and met with Cadance before finishing the chat. Everything that happened after Luna was completely forgotten. It never even showed that I met with Rarity or Cadance, and none of the things we discussed were remembered or showed up in character memories. (keep in mind this is the first time I had met those two in this file.) Out of curiosity, I loaded up a save file I had of Rarity before entering the boutique and hit "quit chat," and it seemed to remember it and list Rarity in character memories.

I think you should be careful with and use the change location and characters buttons sparingly or you might end up losing tons of time.

there are only three - 2.5 Pro, 2.5 Flash and Light. in order of brain's magnitude from biggest to smallest. 2.5 Pro is the best choice. and honestly Flash is great too for a silly RP without advanced formatting and a lot of rules. if Flash has been around in summer 2023 we would have called it the best AI ever. I wouldn't dismiss it this easily just because "it is a lesser model". Light on other hand tho is just not suited for any creative writing to begin with. forget about it. use either 2.5 Pro or Flash. all other models do not work and exists there for legacy reasons (they are discontinued by Google)

Yeah. If you use rentry.org/sukino-findings#if-you-want-to-use-an-online-ai to get the API key, both are free. Flash just has better daily limits and such, but it's easy to make a lot of keys with one account if you want to use Pro more often.

Apparently their API for GLM is still in beta, and they have almost zero documentation about it.
The only info I could find was in a Reddit comment… and it confirms it's still a bit borked.

Models have certain pre-conceived ideas about how a given scenario ought to play out, if they aren't instructed otherwise. Try adding something to the prompt to indicate that she's eventually meant to grasp the situation and calm down. Failing that, put your writing hat on and edit the response to make it go in the direction you're after.

Hard to say without knowing what the scenario is or how it was prompted. If you're doing stories and not RP, don't hesitate to give the model more guidance and direct it a bit, they can get stuck on something pretty easily.

Just had a chance to test this. Looking at the logs, it appears the messages are indeed being saved in the logs, but she's simply not showing up in the story recap. Further, when I visited her, it acted like I had never talked to her before. I decided to change the prompt and nudge it by saying something to the effect of "Oh, I'm coming to pick up the outfit I was promised."

Are these seeded with an initial prompt or something upon first meeting with a character? If so that could explain why it was acting like I had never met them. If that's the case, the nudging might be necessary to make the characters remember the previous conversations. Or maybe I'm just unlucky, hell if I know.

Proxies are in a sorry state. OpenRouter is a common choice for paypigging. Lots of freebies, 50 requests a day for free models, or 1000 a day for a one-time $10 deposit.

For models, It's not as cut and dry as it once was, there's many solid models with good writing capability. But to name a few, Claude is still a major contender, with Sonnet 4.5 being the latest, but can be pricey with frequent usage or extended/large context RPs. Deepseek is okay but usually more chosen for it's exceptionally low or even free price over its quality, currently 3.1 is the latest afaik. Some swear by GLM, newest being 4.6 for quality and low price. And Kimi K2 I can personally attest to spitting out some good shit while still being pretty dirt cheap, on par with GLM. All of those are uncensored too, if not goofily easy to jailbreak.

I played with secret calls some time early last year with kiva. A radio should work as long as you proompt the description and give an example of it.

The best way is to make separate format for when things are on the radio vs just normal narration/dialogue and the LLM will categorize things into one bucket or the other.

From what I remember deepseek usually adheres (too much) to the prompt, and gemini just does it own thing (which sometimes works out for the best). So I think gemini is probably better for characters, and deepseek for convoluted scenarios.
