There's certainly valid criticism of G5. Pic related, for example. Also the post-movie lore in general and even the ass issue. That's why I'm only talking about rabid haters who blindly trash anything G5, and usually blindly worship anything G4, especially Faustian G4. But even Faust had some braindead ideas that needed to be reeled in, and even G5 has good things that can be enjoyed despite the bad, such as the characters which I personally like better than the G4 Mane characters. I don't really like much of G5's lore though, the stuff they scrapped for the movie sounded much more interesting (like Maretime Bay being surrounded by a wall and thus being stuck in pre-industrial technology, and Sunny being the first to climb over the wall to look for other ponies - even if the wall is a cringy allegory to "The Wall").

I'm not sure, but I think I read that her design is literally how the VA wanted the pony to look, but I'm not certain if that was referring to the ears too. It's absolutely deliberate, but not with some grand conspiracy to "create a second Derpy" like some people apparently seem to believe.
