wtf is a popen

I want to use prims to make some tufts of hay or straw to stick out of clothing for an outfit. Any words of wisdom when it comes to using prims in an outfit?

Main thing is that prims are unrigged, so you gotta position them in a way where attaching them to a single bone will look fine during movement.
This can be somewhat tricky with rigged clothing because some areas are going to be blending weights from multiple bones, so will never follow one bone 100%, so when you attach a prim to either of the involve bones the straw will still "slide" around relative to the cloth. But with a bit of trial and error you can probably find places where the rigged cloth follows a bone quite closely and this works fine.

I had a dream where Baltimare was devoid of any buildings, the water level was raised, the ground texture was changed to sand, and there were some piers here and there, making the sim look like some kind of deserted beach. Every popen was hanging out in the center of the sim, and were having a friendly chat with 4 nohooves. When I asked them why they were allowing nohooves, I was just told to look at the world map.
I did, and saw that someone had bought all sims slots surrounding Baltimare (Horse Heights didn't exist for some reason), named them stuff like FUCK YOU and FAGGOTS, and them put big magenta prims on all of them so that they would show up as pure magenta on the world map.

This topic comes on every once in a while and while I understand that starting from scratch has its appeal I also don't want to lose the place the way we have it right now. Some may see it differently but I really love the way the two sim parts look and I literally feel at home there. If everyone decided to go full scorched earth and start from 0 I'd kinda feel like losing that home.
Also, back then SL was really new to most and even if you started from scratch, everything from ground up, it wouldn't feel the same like back then, simply bulldozing everything and doing it again won't bring back that feeling 100%.
On top of it the decoslave will be on hiatus and Quote became a rare pony too. Not sure if we had the marepower to do it all again. Hundreds of hours of actual work went into all this. I don't know if we have enough new builder ponies who'd be willing to build an entire city now.

you could make the sim suddenly be completely empty, do all sorts of shenanigans and then roll it back to how it was before the switch.
as far as I know you can only roll back once or so when there was some sim issue but I don't think you can "save" multiple states and load them like files.

Parent your object to the pony skeleton, merge the entire base pony mesh into one object, add data transfer modifier on your object, select the base pony as the source and transfer weights, you can check if it worked by swithing to anim lation view and playing an anim, export, on upload in SL you have to enable rigging.
Really basic but that's how I remember it going, might be missing a few small steps and there's tons of pitfalls you can get stuck in. Save often, and make a backup file before you start trying to do the rigging because youll likely fuck up and not know how to go back. Keep trying, and you can ask people in game for help, likely there's some around who can help more. I'd help but im away for the next few days

Trvke, I've been doing all these events for the last three years but I haven't even looked at neighberry yet cause it was just so insufferable the last two years. It's always hilariously dead too, I genuinely tend to run into more people during my quick daily run of the ponyville event than I see at that neighberry one, that sim in general always feels like a graveyard, you're lucky if you can even find one or two who arent afk. I was thinking Wheel and EU Marebox could alternate on Fridays in the same or roughly the same "time slot". That or some other alternating schedule involving that day could be arranged. Starting at 1:00 or 2:00 PM SLT might be a little late for an event meant to accommodate Euros, but it is a Friday night and I do see some Europopens at 2:00 PM Wheel so maybe it would work for Marebox at perhaps 1:00 PM. I think you could actually make SL run amazing on modern midrange machines with UE5 but the catch is that whoever did that port would have to know exactly what they're doing so it probably won't ever happen.
UE5's nanite shit would be the absolute perfect solution to all the amateurishly made items that fill SL since triangle count would suddenly do not matter at all anymore.
But UE can get oh so fucking messy and bloated if you don't know how to optimize all the other shit.

As jaded as this sounds, I couldn't see that happening in the timeline we're currently in. Devs on UE5, amateur or (allegedly) professional, have had an overwhelmingly bad track record of actually understanding the limitations of the tools they've been given.
While a theoretical "This Could Be Second Life In 2021 [REAL]" might be possible, I'd suspect the best we'd get is a ~10-20 FPS increase with about 8x the hardware requirement SL currently demands. How much of that is down to UE5 being itself, versus the visibly growing deficit of optimization-related knowledge shown by current-day devs, is up for debate.
Would pave over those directly imported, blatantly unoptimized (and probably store bought) models having like 300,000 polys by default though, yeah.

SL is somewhat different in that LL is a dinosaur company that survives on boomers paying 50x markup on cloud hosting on auto-renew from their retirement accounts, so the business incentives are somewhat different, as is their market since PBR from what I hear tangibly negatively impacted their numbers due to all the normie karens trying to log in from decade old netbooks. But I think the main issue here is that porting to the UE5 render engine, if it's even at all possible, would be a tremendously massive workload and LL, being a dinosaur company, takes years to implement even small changes.
