I don’t know if you know this but every woman has a gay phase. Some just don’t get out of it. It’s fairly obvious that Rarity and Applejack would have a summer fling since they’re childhood friends. Then Rarity would go off to SCAD and meet a guy with a particular accent that reminds her of someone she cares about deeply back home. Meanwhile, Applejack would stay on the farm (Applebloom will be the first Apple to go to college) and first have a conflicting relationship with some yuppie upstart from New York with “just” a business degree, only to inadvertently fall in love with him after he uses his real degree, a doctorate in corporate law, to prevent Flim and Flam from using a legal loophole to take over the farm, and Applejack is reminded of someone she cares deeply about who moved away.

Why is the Rarity/AJ stuff considered shipping? They just have a close platonic friendship and nothing in the special suggests it to be anything more. People act like they were slamming clams on screen, it feels like two girls can't even touch each other in the current year without autists on both sides of the argument screaming 'gay'
