The writers should've gone with the original plotline of Rainbow Dash adopting Scootaloo that was teased from the start of the series. Suddenly having the aunts "come back" after however many years and zero mention until that point was both an egregious retcon in its own right and a massive slap in the face for everyone who wanted Scoots and RD to be sisters. It was absolutely criminal to abandon the heartwarming "Olympian athlete takes her crippled #1 fan under her wing" story in favor of "wine aunts forgot about their niece for a decade" and in my opinion the single worst mistake in the entire show.

That was never the original plotline though. That was a season 3 plotline and the best direction they ever took Dash's character but Faust always thought she'd be a bad role model (given the early pitch episodes where she neglects Scootaloo to try and impress the Wonderbolts)

When their episode happened, it only showed her parents technically dropped her when she was a baby, and fucked off anywhere to have adventures, not caring she has a body malfunction that will forever land her as an Earth pony. And when they appeared, they were like "fuck your friends, we are taking you now" And if you add the comic, you realize they are completely disconnected from her. They literally don't know her.
And then, the aunts: 1) they should be more present in her life. I know kids are dumb, but from the Scootaloo episodes we see, is obvious they are more busy clamming each other than seeing her well being. Even Sweetie Belle's parents show up from time to time, and even visit her even when they are in a world trip honeymoon.
And 2) Lesbians. We all know they only did it because the alphabet crowd would say "hey, representation", when we all knew they were GIANT PUSSIES by not making Lyra and Bon Bon a thing!

Even add that kids who don't have a very strong mature presence tend to idolize others, so we all should be careful with the example we give to the kids. End with Rainbow taking Scootaloo under her mantle. Never show Scootaloo's family, period.

As it stands, it was a bad retcon, so fuck Scootaloo's parents, and fuck her aunts. All they are remembered now is being cumdumpsters who get the lesbian fucked out of them. If that's all you remember from a character, you failed.

It is mentioned that Rarity sometimes stays at Scootaloo's house to look after her and I feel like she is the type of pony to completely empty the fridge all for herself and search through the pockets of the home owners' clothes. I wouldn't trust her.

Make it so they hadn't been supposedly caring for her all along. Because there's no evidence anyone was caring for her up until this forced episode. It made no sense. Scoot even had dialogue about not having anyone in Rainbow Dash's parent episode. So immediately you're left to question the quality of their care. There was so little organic about it. Way worse than Twilight's sudden BBBFF.

Basically you could still have them. But they aren't related. They adopt her from foster, but are from out of town so a move is threatened. Scoots struggles with having a family vs having friends. And the loving duo decide to move to Ponyville. And just forget writing Scoot's parents altogether. They are immoral pieces of selfish neglectful shit that shouldn't exist in Equestria. Just pretend they don't exist. Because the only alone foals are those with dead parents.

This neatly gets rid of all the issues I have with the episode. But still isn't the comfiest arc for Scoots. That would be bring adopted by Dash.

But this would at least not disappoint me like this episode did.

Also they were first introduced in the children's novels written by G.M. Berrow before making their television debut in Season 9, which I don't believe has ever happened to anything or anypony else from said books.
