Most of Cadance's appearances happen without Shining and most of Cadance's fandom relevance exists in spite of Shining

If anything her introduction is the only bad part of her. The only thing she needs Shining for is the wife throw meme.

I'm glad she is a character but if Shining wasn't her husband then I think that would make her less interesting. Maybe I'm just not remembering but after Flurry was born both characters just kinda shuffled off for the most part. I think Shining is a better stand alone character than Cadence but that's not really her fault. Victim of circumstance.

Twilight was a massive introvert before writing her into a mini-Celestia, Luna was away for 1000 years, Celestia is so forced to be the mask of the perfect princess at all times that she barely has any chance to be a regular pony

Cadance was an orphan pegasus in an earth pony town who was beloved by everyone for being kind and chipper, kinda like a calmer Pinkie Pie. She was then adopted by Celestia and forced to study magic as a pegasus, which left her confused and directionless for a while, finding herself more comfortable by taking care of foals and giving them the guidance and nurturing that she wished she had. While also having a somewhat normal teenage experience growing up (going to school, dealing with classmates, falling in love, etc)

If you were to talk about your problems with any of the princesses, Cadance would be the one to be able to relate to you the most, and be able to offer you a reasonable solution from a place of sharing a similar experience. She's the most down to earth, unlike Luna, who can give you advice from a place of authority, but doesn't really know what its like to grow up as a regular citizen of Equestria.

Sometimes I think about Cadance's and I can't help but see her existence as super manufactured and market-tested. I know the whole point of the show is to tell toys to little girls, but you really feel it with her.
She's pink and made out of other typically girly colors. She's an alicorn. She's the princess of love (whatever that means). Her husband is a knight in Shining Armor. She's the niece of the sisters and Twilight's sister in-law. Every details feels like its ripped from the bio of the most uncreative OC ever.
As a character, though? I like her and Shining. They're a sweet couple, and I like they're relationship with Twilight.

If you look at the early marketing, Hasbro has been trying to make pink Celestia toys for a while, they wanted a pink pony princess to sell toys from. Then there's the Wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton, and Hasbro desperately, hopelessly wanting to catch that trend by making ads and social media posts relating MLP's wedding to it.

Cadance was manufactured from the get-go to be the perfect pretty pink pony princess. Even her backstory is ripped from The Princess Diaries and her only other big contribution to the show was having a baby they could sell more toys of.

But the writers tried to make a good character out of her and I'm quite pleased with what they have managed to accomplish.

For me personally, Zizzy brought Cadance to life, even if it's his version of her, it's a good one, because the princess of love being social and liking to party and dance just makes sense and is fun, like it's her secret side she shows when she doesn't have to uphold her royal demeanor and court manners. I never was interested in Cadance up until I saw her IRL.

I think they're also interesting separatel, though we need to know more about Cadences interests and her talent.
