So is Luna's cutie mark just the moon or the whole thing?

Canon has been very inconsistent about this. There's also a similar issue plushmakers face, or rather their patrons who need to make a choice: is the black cloud on Luna's butt connected in the middle or not? Canon resolves this but preferences still vary.

I remember an old fanfic where Luna changes between S1 and S2 designs according to the phases of the Moon. I think it was made to explain her new appearance back in late 2011.
