Why haven't zoomoid no-wave and punk revivalists tried to do what Elvis Costello did? What's fashionable seems to be SWANS, Sonic Youth, or The Dead Kennedy's, Ramones, etc... But there's nothing like the witty, sardonic, yet melodic tunes from 'My Aim Is True'. Intelligent songwriting with an encyclopedic knowledge of musical history -- yet not trading away any of that youthful angst or energy.

No one's really funny anymore. The pace of forever-online culture means no one reflects on anything but just knee-jerk reacts and moves on. Or you have the opposite problem, where every bit of media is analyzed to death in long-form content like "How Rugrats Depicts Late Capitalism [Length: 03:34:03]". So the middle ground of genuine unique commentary is mostly bereft of an audience. It's also why current music that touches on politics/current events feels so lame and instantly dated.
