He's right though. It gets confusing for the fans when everyone starts pulling in different directions and doing other bands. People's egos get all out of whack. Takes twice as long to get a new album done too.

Bands need to stay focused and stay on brand. Keep it simple. Streamlined. Or else you're fired. Based Hetfield.

I received the Load remastered boxset early and went through the book that's included, there's a letter from the photographer in there. He basically said that it was Lars's idea to change up their image, and wanted him to do the photos for the album because of his work with bands like U2.

They definitely went overboard with the makeup... with that said still a solid era, some of my favorite Mets songs are on Load. They also released some damn good live footage not too long ago.

Bitch with the bass intro, Mouldy instrumental, FOBD, Streamline, The Red The Blue The Grey, Jack rehearsals

This was the best era of the band, apart from the raging homosexuality.

Which streaming service are you using? Even YT have begun region limiting some of this stuff.
>that's such a fun snapshot of an era flush with silly money.
95-00 was so much fun being a fan. No stadiums, meet & greet lotteries, cheaper tickets ($50!) they were still kind of approachable. Hetfield playing super mario with fans.
>I wonder what they've got lined up for Reload.
At least the riff tapes & demos, early takes/works in progress of songs like Wild Things, Carpe, Fixxxer, UnII. Probably live shows Brisbane '98, Ministry of Sound '97, tons of pro shots from the '98 ampitheatre tour. Musically not as interesting as Load but it'll be a fun romp.

Yeah, I'm happy that they've been so generous with these sets. Some people complain about the scale/redundancy but I'm always in favor of big dumps. Let the diehards sort 'em out.

Didn't they do a sorta-but-not-quite-MTV Unplugged in '98-ish? Matt Pinfield hosting. I downloaded a very grainy rip of that from eMule back in the day. Plus whatever radio show they plucked Tuesday's Gone from.

Yes, Reload Rehearse Request, c.March 1998 iirc. I received a murky dub on VHS back in '99. Good fun.

They would've been the best band ever and I'm not even kidding. All the problems both bands had would never happen. Cliff wouldn't have died, James wouldn't be an alcoholic, Dave would never get hooked on heroin or become a diva. They'd be four guys in a band, not just two leaders and two yes men and the combined musical genius of the four of them would have created some of the best music ever recorded.

They would have either stayed making the same 80s thrash shit forever even after it became stale like the other big 3 or imploded if a sound change was attempted

I can imagine the group talk they had before this
>James, can you... I don't know, crouch a bit or something? It's just that every time we do one of these, we end up looking really short.

look at the album booklet art of U2's Achtung Baby. The same photographer did Load and Reload. It's like Metallica (probably Lars and Kirk) thought "this album is going to be our Achtung Baby....lets get the same guy!"
