I get to jam tomorrow and Saturday with my friend. I'm excited.
>>126694788What will you guys play? Or what do you typically play?
The 1957 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue.
*sips Monster Zero Ultra*
Yep, now that's a geetar.
>>126694715 (OP)Say has anyone used rocksmith 2014 before? How good is it to learn how to play guitar (and piano)? It seems neat but kind of skeptical because it's Ubisoft.
>>126695079For actual learning it's not great, but for getting in practice with the guitar it's good.
I'm not sure how you'd get much if any piano experience out of it.
>>126694715 (OP)Just me or is hearing yourself play is like hearing yourself speak -- vomit inducing
I'm really thinking of modding my benton tele into a v. Saw off the sides, glue some blocks and saw out a v shape. Also fill out the trem holes and make it a hardtail. Oh it is so tempting.
What do you think of bands that save their good gear for the studio and use shitplanks on tour?
IIRC Clan of Xymox use Harley Bentons on tour and then just give them away when the dates are finished

>>126695153Mistakes are more noticable when you listen to a recording. You don't notice shit like fluctuating tempo or bad notes ringing while you're playing (unless you're good), but on a recording it's impossible to ignore.
>>126695308That's actually pretty cool. And they don't gotta worry about their good shit getting stolen.
>>126694797Usually just turning on the drum machine and playing until something clicks. sometimes start a loop then build on it by jamming but never record any of it. Since I understand a bit more theory, I'm thinking we will try and write but we'll see. My friend plays guitar and I check up on him but he's not very consistent with practice. That makes me sad
>>126694715 (OP)How do I practice playing expressively
>>126695308>What do you think of bands that save their good gear for the studio and use shitplanks on tour?Doesn't everyone do this, well except bands that are so rich it doesn't matter
>>126695485Looper pedal, make a backing progression, noodle until you're involuntarily making the stank face. Congrations, you done it.
>>126695308Bands get robbed all the time on tour I don't blame them at all. There are countless stories of bands breaking up after having their gear stolen.
Rocked too hard a few nights ago and chipped my front tooth on the aluminum neck, lads
Shit sucked, had to get an emergency dentist appointment and all
>>126696189Did you dent the neck though?

>>126695760Does gear theft even pay off considering how vigilant musicians are about getting their shit back and the hassle off selling shit off to pawn stores and so on?
Seems like it would be a better gig to just steal copper wire like the rest of the scum
>>126696798Back in the days you could drive off a couple blocks and pawn shit off easily and no one would ever find out, these days not so much since everything gets uploaded online, but crackheads will steal anything
>>126696798Nah, Heart had their shit jacked two weeks ago and the dude that did it is already arrested.
I've been playing an embarrassingly long time to have just now accidentally figured out sad but true. i dont play in dropped often.
2 lbs cubed lean beef
3 lbs halved ripe tomatoes
.5lb diced onion
1 bunch sliced celery
.5lb minced Jalapeno (adjust to taste for heat, can use serranos/habeneros)
1 bundle of cilantro chopped with stems
Brown the beef with the onions on high heat with a teaspoon of vegetable oil, add a tsp of salt to sweat the beef and onions. Once browned add the celery and continue cooking for 2 minutes, once the celery starts to release its aroma add the jalepeno mince and halved tomatoes, smashing the tomatoes as you add them to release their juices, once smashed all meat and vegetables should be submerged in the tomato juice, if they didnt juice enough out add water till all is covered, simmer for 2 hours on low heat, add half the cilantro, simmer another 1 hour or until meat is fall apart tender and add the last half of the cilantro, serve with warm tortillas.
>>126695153you have to keep doing it till you get used to it

>>126698312Why did you get a spring pedal when you already have spring reverb on the amp
>>126698312I just use the spring reverb on my cranked Fender Blues Jr. With a Boss Ds-1, and the volume knob on my GIBSON sg turned back until the amp barely distorts... You can get any tone a real rock n' roller needs. Just turn up the volume knob to add distortion, than kick on the Ds-1 to get a different tone.
Why do they make real spring reverb pedals but no one has made a plate reverb pedal with a real plate inside?
This could be a big idea
>>126698364As if I care about your gear. You any kinda artist?
>>126698376Doesn't the plate need to be fairly large?
>>126698348Cuz the spring tank in the amp is both reverb and tremolo and they’re controlled by the same knobs, and I wanted to use the on board spring tank as an analog tremolo with an analog spring reverb on my board. If I want to use both reverb and tremolo on the on board tank they both have the have the exact same setting, and I like being able to have very wet drippy reverb with subtle tremolo or subtle reverb with warbly tremolo. With the pedal I can have two separate reverb channels and with the on board tank I can dial in the tremolo exactly how I like

Do I just get a squier classic vibe jaguar or spend the extra few hundred for the player ii? What's the differences apart from the classic vibe having all the bells and whistles? And buttons ofc, am I really just going to be paying for the Fender logo?
>>126700445The Classic Vibe targets vintage specs, and the Player II tries for more modern specs.
A couple examples:
CV has a gloss neck and the Player has a satin urethane neck.
The Player has a less deep C shape in its neck than the CV.
There's a lot of changes that make me sorta scratch my head, though, like them completely removing the rhythm circuit and switches for pickup selection on the Player II. It makes it feel like it's not a real Jaguar without all that.
They fuck up the pickup selection for the Mustang in that series, too, and it's the big reason I would never get a Player II Mustang.
Also they don't even give you locking tuners until you step up to their more expensive Player II Modified series (which they offer neither Jaguars nor Mustangs in anyways).
Honestly, if you can stomach not having Fender on the headstock and the body being poplar instead of alder then I'd say just get the Classic Vibe. I've got a CV in my collection, and it's a perfectly fine instrument.
The more I look at the Player II the more disappointing it seems. You don't even get the cool block inlays, tortoise shell pickguard, or bound fretboard.

>>126700445Neither, the CV has a shitty trem system and the P2 is lacking a rhythm circuit. Get a used Vintera or possibly older, might take a bit of extra saving but you will thank me later I promise.

>>126700774The CV Jags are particularly bad in my experience but maybe that’s a fluke. I own one and have pulled more than a few off the wall to compare it to and all of them feel pretty bad compared to my Vintera.
>>126700901Not a fluke, they are all like that, gritty, abrupt clunk at the end of travel, not holding tune, standard procedure per Pusheen and his redditors is to replace it with avri unit or similar.
How many people here play bass? It feels like there's not even 10 people here that do

>>126701034I tried, I can't fucking hear myself. I can't hear bass, it's just either there in the mix, or not, but if I try to play it, it's like playing unplugged guitar with earplugs, there's no feedback. I'm missing a crucial part of soul that allows playing bass.
>>126700925I pulled mine out about an hour ago remembering I have some shims and a 3 pack of heavy bottoms I wanted to put on it. Even after a .25 shim, action adjustment, bridge and intonation setup it still just feels like shit, trem non withstanding. To put it bluntly you would have to upgrade the trem and hope that you got one with exceptional QC if you want a CV Jag that even remotely stands up next to the cheapest Fender jag. My Vintera required a shim and a fair amount of setup as well but it actually plays and sounds very, very nice after doing so, I just can’t say the same of the CV. I guess the player 2 is an option if you don’t care about the rhythm circuit but that’s a lot of what makes a jag a jag IMO.
>>126700996Exclusively? I'm not sure. I started on bass as a kid and while I do still play, its in addition to playing guitar. Though I do catch myself writing riffs in my head as just drum and bass during the day. That probably has a lot to do with it being my first instrument.

>>126701482Mustang bro? I hope it’s a good one. I was bitching about the trem on my MG73 a few threads back and it must have been the strings being new because now it stays in tune just fine. Not loving the mustang trem arm though, I need to try one of my longer arms in it and buy one of those if I like it.
>>126701559You WILL love me and my pedals
>>126701482Awwwww yeah baby it's a good mail day on /gg/
Got me a cheap open-box Squier sonic P bass, gonna yank the frets out tonight
>>126701668Will you seal the fret slots? This has always intrigued me, my friend had a nice fretless bass back in the day, I forget which brand but it was from the 80s and had active pickups and sounded and played very smooth. You’ll probably have to lower the action too right?
does anyone else ever think about guitars being alive? like these shitplanks being mass produced in china feel like they have diseases and they are in pain all the time then they get abused by their owners or when boomers buy a stratocaster and they relic it themselves with sandpaper and hammers the guitar wants to scream because its like going through cartel torture but we can't hear it then it ends up starving in solitary confinement because the boomer doesn't play it anyway, its why I always give my Christina a rubdown with high quality guitar polish and restring her from time to time to let her know she is loved. "good girl" I say as I readjust her trem block, I even pop a boner when I remove her pickguard (Its really her brassiere) yep thats Christina alright, the headstock says "Fender Stratocaster" but her heart says "play with me and hear me roar"
>>126701668Nobody cares poorfag
>>126701695Yeah I've got some wood filler, I assume that's better to use in this situation rather than wood putty since it's meant to be sanded. Never tried it myself but it seems straightforward enough. Definitely will have to lower the action.
I have a fretless Glarry bass (like $60 on Amazon) and I love that MWUAAAAHHH sliding sound, but the guitar itself feels terrible. Super light body, heavy and thick neck, and I don't know what the fretboard is made out of but it feels awful.
I'll post it when I finish. It'll probably look sloppy, but as long as it plays well, that's good enough for me
>>126701707I just dont think about these things at all because I wouldn't buy a chinese made guitar nor would I even look at an instrument with "relic" in the title.

It took some trial and error but I’m pretty sure I found the strings that came on my Vintera mustang that sound perfect on those guitars. The guy said Heavy Bottoms but after autistically measuring the string gauge with multiple sets of calipers and matching the color of the string coating, I’m 99.9% certain they are in fact Power Slinky’s. I wasted ~$30 dollars worth of strings but it was worth it and gave me some practice on changing strings with a mustang vibrato. Going to take some time for them to settle and age, but they feel very close.

I just realized I don’t have any 11s on hand cuz I used my last sets restringing my Revstar and LP Special so I gotta go get some, this has what feels like 9s on it and I hate how 9s feel on a short scale. I didn’t realize this came with the vibrato arm, seller didn’t mention it and it wasn’t in any pics so I’m surprised it’s here. Cool video explaining how Todd Rundgren got some motorcycle sounds out of his Mustang before going right into a solo all in one take, goes to show how stable the Mustang vibrato is if set up right
>>126704498Yeah it sounds great and feels great other than feeling the nicks on the neck, but I’m gonna have to pull the neck anyway to shim it so while it’s off I’ll fill the nicks in
>>126704513I use NYXLs on most of my electrics and have some 11 NYXLs on my Super Sonic right now and they feel great on the 24” scale

I bought a thumb screw from the hardware store will be able to fiddle with the vibrato arm without needing an Allen key around, it looks stupid but it’s a real quality of life improvement when using the arm and not just palming the cigar
I was gifted an electric guitar yesterday and have 0 clue about string instruments or whatever they're called. Any useful resources to learn? Like youtube chanels websites apps whatever?
>start band last summer with friends
>one that decides to be Rhythm Guitarist is competent
>one that decides to be Drummer is pretty damn good
>one that decides to be Bassist is fucking awful
>never actually tries to play his instrument
>spends majority of practice on his phone or zoning out due to shit sleep schedule
>puts off doing literally anything in the band for nearly an entire year since he makes a million excuses
>we just stop doing shit because no fucking clue what this dumbass is doing
>we decide to get back together yesterday and kick him out
>Rhythm Guitarist switches to Bass and I'm only Guitarist now
>we actually fucking write some songs and practice them
Feels good man, have any of you had any similar experiences with some asshole holding back your entire band single-handedly?

Hi ! I just started to play guitar and would like to know what chord is that woman here playing?
>>126704769I'm sorry you can't relate to the idea of having something to talk about. It would require you to lead some kind of life that interacts with other people in a non-shit way, and you are clearly the worst kind of autistic.
That was much easier than expected. Doesn't look great, but it's smooth so whatever.
>>126704917Oh ! Cool ! :P I don't know much about theory. What is that chord called?
>>126704970The “female in front of a camera” chord
>>126704711Sit down and watch all of Absolutely Understand Guitar by Scotty West. It's free on YouTube. Whenever you have free time and are sitting around practice the hands-on stuff he prescribes. He builds up the theory part of playing guitar in a way that makes it seem obvious, and it blew my mind to learn some of the stuff after playing guitar without theory for years.
>>126704957How was it out of the box? I want a bass and have been tempted to go the cheap route but it’s for recording so I should probably at least get a used Fender.
>>126705171Unless you're a serious bass player, just get a cheapo. An Ibanez starter bass is good enough to lay basic tracks in any genre.
Will I get looks if I pull out a fret rocker to test a guitar in a store before I buy it? I would also play through all of the frets to see if they're buzzing with the current setup.
>>126705316Who gives a shit, do what you need to in order to be confident in your purchase, Good guitars aren't cheap.
>>126705316No, that's why you go to a store in-person in the first place. You should be testing the guitars. If they get weirded out then just go to a different store because they're clearly not confident in their shit.
>>126705171Honestly the Squier Sonic line sounds great, and if you're looking for a P bass specifically, get one and save the money over a Fender. Squier has had some really shit models in my experience (affinity, bullet) but every Sonic I've gotten, guitar or bass, has been set up and sounds good right out the box.
If it's a jazz bass you're looking for, Fender is a better bet. But if it's just for laying down a bass line for your songs, I think it's a good buy. Nothing you can't easily do in your DAW to make it pro quality.

And all of this is missing the point. Dude asked if he should check guitars for quality control issues at a guitar store before buying them. Sperg out elsewhere, poor.
>>126705382Sold, just pulled the trigger via Amazon (I’m sick of customer reps from Sweetwater blowing my phone up every time I buy a pack of strings, if I bought an actual instrument from them they would probably knock on my door). I feel pretty confident I can do and required set up. Well, that makes 7 guitars this year, fuck me.
>>126705675I bought some cables years and years ago on Sweetwater, and I had a guy last year call me to tell me he was my new representative cause the old guy quit. I didn't even know I had a representative before.
Mustang is now sitting all dismantled waiting to be reassembled and set up, but I’ve got to wait for the super glue in the dings on the neck to dry. Vibrato is all ready to go, bridge will be ready to go once I can stick the neck on and eyeball it, shim is all trimmed up, it’s just a matter of cleaning up the neck before reassembling and restringing and setting it up

>>126705751Wait are the screw heads not supposed to face the vibrato?
>>126705787Screws facing the vibrato is how it comes factory. It doesn't actually matter which way it faces, but sometimes flipping a bridge or an individual saddle can help you to intonate it better.

>>126706086Oh, thinking about it in that context it probably doesn't matter. You're not trying to hold anything with it, you just fill and probably buff or sand it down and forget it.
>>126706103It depends on the type of bridge. Generally the action at the nut is lower than the action at 12 and above because of bridge angles, so a shim lifts the upper frets up a little closer to the strings without affecting the action at the nut which is usually already as low as possible.
>lemme just shim this neckthrough

>>126707782With what?
I’ve got some trouble shooting to do with it. Worst case scenarios are:
1) Worn out Japanese vibrato unit; replace with a $200+ vintage unit that’s built with better quality metal that won’t wear out from metal on metal contact
2) Take it to a guitar shop 2.5 hours away that specializes in offset guitars and they could easily get it going for me but I’ll be way more than I’ve ever spent on a setup
3) say fuck it and just buy a Ben Gibbard Mustang hardtail “vibrato” from Fender for like $90 and just be done with tweaking a floating vibrato and then tweak the bridge so it won’t rock/just buy a Mastery bridge
I’m gonna keep fiddling with it until I get it right, it’s just annoying when you think you’ve got it when you don’t
