The best songs in that album are leftovers from when he was a Beatle. Once he ran outta scraps he was done.

John and Paul only allowed him 2 songs per album and would only perform a couple takes of each song while they got to release shit like Wild Honey Pie and Revolution 9 and do 50 takes of Maxwell's Silver Hammer. When he did his solo album, he had several years of unused songs saved up. Afterward, he had to write all new material, which is why subsequent albums only had a handful of good tracks and a bunch of filler.

Itโ€™s absolutely perfect. The big showstopping numbers have a larger than life grandeur and the more plaintive acoustic numbers are wrapped in a dreamlike haze. Itโ€™s all very appropriate and attuned to each track. Wanting to lessen the effect would be like wanting to soundproof a cathedral.

Have you ever actually looked at how many takes they did of various songs?
>70+ takes of ATMP (not sure why this isn't included in the pic, George pulled it himself btw)
>101+ takes of Not Guilty
vs
>21 takes of MSH

The reality is that George wasn't good at directing the Beatles in the studio and his songs generally took more takes than usual. He wasn't decisive or assertive enough to efficiently develop the songs into something good. When he had more confidence towards the end of the group and as a solo artist, he was better at it and it showed in the songs.

Also John and Paul earned the right to waste time on a few crappy songs in between a near constant stream of hits and masterpieces. George regularly wasted his precious 2 songs on forgettable shit without compensating with great songs.

he always stroke me as a waste of potential
the dude had a few nice ideas, but worked very little to make them into something polished
out of his almost 30 songs with The Beatles, only a handful are actually good, most are forgettable filler that made it into the albums because the rest of the band didn't feel it was right to dismiss him
his guitar skills were very mediocre, and he never improved. Most of his solos and licks are mediocre, poorly played, or just plain awkward
he was always trying to shove that stupid sitar everywhere, and never got around to actually learning it or making a good song of it. He was like those white chicks who play the ukelele
he really was getting somewhere by the time The Beatles were done, which is why his best songs are in the final albums, and his first solo project, ATMP
but then again, he lacked the discipline to really polish and work out his ideas. ATMP has great tunes, but it's also an overproduced mess, and he never got around to making anything that good anymore
I used to actually like him, because he seemed like an ok person who had little voice with the band, but the more I looked into him, the more I found out that he actually had more than he deserved
he was a whiny lazy twat, constantly threatening to leave the band whenever things didn't go his way

Get Back doc exposed what you and i and others already deep down knew. it helps to be in bands in your life because you will come across a George phenotype and have your 'aha' moment. remember without western bolshviek destruction set in stone (and especially George Martin and EMI resources) then these nastys from a shiteating factory docking town would have never gone anywhere like countless other decently talented groups existing in the same spaces. Macca would be a bedroom pop guy and Lennon would have been in jail for murder.

By the end of the Beatles he was great. Something, Here Comes the Sun, solos on The End and Let it Be, I Me Mine. These are great songs, it just took him a while to get to this point (still younger than you though).
