Any Albums That Sound Like This?
'Flying Lotus - You're Dead' is one of my all time favorite records. Looking for something with a similar Electronic, Jazz-fusion vibe or at least in the same ballpark. Also down for any recommendations of something different but worth checking out. Thanks!

Any FlyLo fans lurking the boards? If so, what do you think about his recent stuff? I've kinda been underwhelmed. It doesn't feel as daring as his early stuff but he should be coming out with a new LP soon so we'll see if it's just a career hiccup or he's officially washed.

Also, who are some producers I should keep my eye on? I've been f'ing w/ Cities Aviv for the longest but wanna sink my teeth into some new shi-

also, if you haven't listened to You're Dead by Flying Lotus, I highly recommend checking it out on a surround sound system your first time. The sound design and mix are immaculate. Smoke a little weed, listen to it on a surround system, I guarantee you'll have a great time.

I saw Flying Lotus at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

yeah people here don't seem to actually enjoy music, and make fun of people who actually do (indieheads, hip hopheads). It sucks but what can you do.

I like Jaga Jazzist, if you're still here.

You'll probably like Squarepusher. The early albums are very fusion inspired with a lot of bass guitar shredding and jungle drum beats.

flying lotus is kinda unique, i've searched but cant find anyone else on his level, atleast of his older stuff
Listening to him got me into jazz fusion proper so i'd reccomend that

haven't heard of Jaga Jazzist, I'll check them out. Thanks for the rec.

Yeah the current state of /mu/ is shit. I've been physically going to record stores and talking to randoms to get recommendations. Way better experience.

Saw him at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz California. Super small venue, fits maybe 200 and I had a good time. I agree his fanbase is retarded tho. Saw a dude smoke dust and started having a seizure. Security had to stop the show and drag his lifeless body out the venue. Other than that it was a fun time. I could see his music not making for the best festival set though.

Spot on! I've listened to "Go Plastic" and really liked the more Drum & Bass heavy tracks. I've been meaning to check out his other stuff. Any specific albums I should listen to?

these tracks are sick, thanks for putting me on.

I agree, I've yet to hear another artists blend a similar range of influences the same way Fly Lo has. His early music raised my expectations for music to an unreasonable level.

Had a friend tell me Toro Y Moi is the closest things to Fly Lo and is just as good. I completely lost respect for his music taste after he said that lol

nope. made that reply after lurking /mu/. low-effort threads, users spamming bad takes, etc. my go to music forum has fallen from grace in a substantial way. IDGAF if no one responds to my thread, as long as the threads that are getting engagement be halfway decent.

He dropped an EP early April "Spirit Box" that worth a listen. Nothing super mind-blowing, just solid jazz-fusion laid-back vibes. A little deep house in there too. Other than that, he produced a soundtrack for the Netflix anime "Yesuke" a couple years ago, that has a couple good tracks on it too. I thought he was gearing up to release a full-length record, but he went radio silent after the EP

If you know you know! A must-listen for any electronic-music, Jazz, or even HipHop fan. Might be my favorite in his discog. Either "You're Dead!" or Cosmogramma

He was on that multi-artist record "Funkingfusion" back in the day? Kinda has Luke Vibert vibes or am I off? I know of him, is there a specific album I should listen to or just jump in wherever?

maybe DJ Shadow - Endtroducing?

I'm a big fan of lotus but it's really hard to find similar artists because his style is all over the place (but in a good way)
