Probably not even bait, as younger kids seem to be fooled by nostalgia in their appraisal of nu metal.
As a genre, the only good releases are:
Korn: albums 0, 1, 2 and 4. Follow the Leader has a shitton of filler.
Slipknot: albums 1 and 2. Subliminal Verses is alt metal.
Mudvayne: album 1.
Linkin Park: album 1. Hot take: Meteora was just a more commercial rehash of their first album, and the rest of their career has consisted of them either rehashing their early sound (new album), or just selling out shamelessly.
Deftones: albums 1 and 2. Already showed signs of transitioning into alt metal since Around the Fur, which is probably the best nu metal album of all time.
Dir en grey: six Ugly EP and Vulgar LP; their only nu metal releases.
Other bands commonly mentioned as nu metal like SOAD and Faith No More are alt metal, and the rest of the genre (except some obscure bands here and there) is almost entirely shit.

The white niggs that listened to numetal back in the late 90's/early 00's are now all middle aged & seeking validation. It's always been "Fat Kid Mean-Muggin' Everybody" music.

The hilarious thing is, most chumps who got into numetal, COMPLETELY forwent the ENTIRE organic sound of the 90s, before that. They were either wiggers who listened exclusively to rap music, or were into standard metal up until that point. They had no clue how the 90's shaped the overall sound, which is to say they had no idea how numetal was basically the record labels finally figuring out how to polish, distill and package "edgy music" for edgy faggots. Another branch of this was 00's "emo music," which was the fucking rinkydink themepark version of pop punk with screamier vocals. Knowing this it's no wonder rock music basically died in the mainstream, these last 15~ years.
