Only zoomers and younger millennials glorify the 80s. It was the cheesiest decade for everything, cheesy music, cheesy movies, cheesy fashion. The 80s and 90s were like complete opposites aesthetically, but zoomers think they're similar decades. People in the 90s wanted to completely distance themselves from that entire decade, and took inspiration from the 70s and 60s. Everything in the 90dls was like a complete rejection of the 80s.

What a coincidence a buch of losers from seattle appear out of nowhere and suddenly replace dominant, upbeeat, technically difficult music with downbeat, depressed, easy to play music exactly the year the USSR dissolves and the USA doesn't need strong white men anymore (only blacks are allowed to make popular music with lyrics about partying and fucking women now). Grunge cuckified Rock; just look at pre grunge punks who had a 'we're not gonna take it' mentality and cared about working class issues. Punks after grunge can only cry, vote democrat and care about trans issues.

Grunge's "edge": 'rape me', 'everyone is gay'
kek nirvana literally paved the way for the modern woke liberals, glam metal had actual lyrics with edge that criticized the elite and called for action against them (Freedom by Alice Cooper, We're not gonna take it, DRFSR, Nothing but a good time). Grunge guys were a bunch of passive crybabies.
Anonymous No.126713818

In terms of style, yeah, Nirvana was a synthesis of the best 80s underground shit.
But what those indie/under bands didn't have was the absolutely timeless tunes.

Frank Black was very talented but he never wrote a catchy song like Lithium.
Black was better at writing weird hybrid songs that made some strange stylistic leaps, from folk ballad to metal explosive chorus

I'm so glad I'm over my 90s love phase. Don't get me wrong still think some great shit came out in the decade it's just that looking at it more a lot of that shit really sucked, especially the late 90s and even then I still have a warm nostalgic spot for that. But the 80s was just because, shit went harder, the primitive sythns and drum machines they were using really lent to that feel. Plus white people still knew how to make a groove in the 80s.

The only thing that improved in the 90s was hip-hop and probably metal. And the 90s was hip-hop at its apex.

Nirvana had a net negative on rock music because it led to labels signing up any band that could play 3 strings and make distorted noise. One one end grunge gave us Pearl Jam which got picked up by post-grunge bands. Nirvana is more so responsible for bands like Green Day and emo shit, and nu-metal was wiggers who listened to NIN and Depeche Mode and that was the 90s from like 1996 until it ended.

Honestly the best shit out of the 90s was the electronic/dance music, idm and all that shit

Nevermind [DGC, 1991]
After years of hair-flailing sludge that achieved occasional songform on singles no normal person ever heard, Seattle finally produces some proper postpunk, aptly described by resident genius Kurt Cobain: "Verse, chorus, verse, chorus, solo, bad solo." This is hard rock as the term was understood before metal moved in--the kind of loud, slovenly, tuneful music you think no one will ever work a change on again until the next time it happens, whereupon you wonder why there isn't loads more. It seems so simple. A
