Kind of hilarious how bad Stranger Things actually did end up killing the most of the love for Kate here. Remember when she easily won queen of mu polls? Bet she wouldn't get in the top 5 now
Love me sum Kate

Easily the best female pop artist of all time. Her first 5 albums are absolutely perfect, injovative, daring, sweet and emotional. Kate Bush is SOVL incarnate.

I still love her and think she is the only female musical artist worth a damn. I was happy she got a song in Stranger Things. I actually heard Running Up That Hill in a store one day. And I'm sure at least one person heard that song, liked it, and further explored Kate's discography. Don't see any negatives to it getting featured in Stranger Things desu.

I listened to her first album. Much better than I expected. Top-tier female singer. Best track is Kite. The hit single was apparently Wuthering Heights but that one didn't stand out to me. I might listen to the whole album against just to be sure I'm not getting tricked into thinking it's good by the singing. Production is kind of bad by 1978 standards with some weird mixing and out of place distortion in places.

I listened to it again and I still think it's good. Kite is still the best song, mostly because it's the only one that's properly danceable. The Man With The Child In His Eyes is also excellent. I'm no theory nerd but I get the feeling that the kind of person who gets excited by chord changes would like this one. Also good: Oh To Be In Love, with some nice synth brass, and both James And the Cold Gun and Them Heavy People for a strong bassline. Still don't think Wuthering Heights is anything special.

Also I thought the sequencing of the final two tracks was amusing:
>Room For The Life:
Pregnancy is a reason to live!
>The Kick Inside
...unless you get knocked up by your brother.

Also, I realized Kate Bush is British. For some reason I always assumed she was American.

>only female musical artist worth a damn
I will never understand how mu got this bad about women, have you just never listened to a full album by another critically acclaimed female artist that isn't a pop star or what? Because who listens to, say a Nina Simone or PJ Harvey record and says yeah, not worth a damn. Even if you don't like the music, what the fuck? I don't listen to that many female artists myself but I can still name a few dozen off the top of my head that are top tier songwriters or performers. Even shit I heavily dislike

Songwriting is far and away the thing that makes me respect a musician. I will never respect someone for their vocal performance. I admire musicians because learning an instrument is tough. But unless you're top 10 on the planet in your instrument, I'm not really going to care. I can acknowledge plenty of "artists" who perform live, have great charisma, and really own the arena. I understand that is an incredibly rare talent. But I don't consider that being a musical artist. So no, Nina Simone nor PJ Harvey aren't worth a damn for doing anything I consider valuable.
Find more women that make interesting music. I exaggerated and should have said Kate Bush is the only female musical artist I know of that's worth a damn.

PJ's claim to acclaim IS her songwriting though. Look at how varied her discog is too.
And Joni? Joanna? 90's Tori? Adrianne? Laura Marling? Fiona? Those are some of the more obvious ones whose skills are undeniable imo. Not even my personal favorites. Be honest, how many albums have you listened to from any of these, and how many more than once?

I listened to Lionheart too. It's arguably even better than The Kick Inside despite the worse RYM score. Vocals are more expressive with the additional techniques of vocal distortion and comedic faux-German accent. Piano parts are a lot more interesting. Hard to pick a favorite track here. I'm leaning toward Fullhouse, but I'll probably listen again and maybe change my mind.

Singing with the level of expression Kate Bush manages in her first two albums (and maybe more, I haven't listened yet) is not easy.

"Interesting"? I would actually suggest some Polly Harvey for that then, most of her albums are really different from one another so you might have to dig for a sound you like. Also Tori Amos 2nd, 3rd, and 4th albums would prob interest you and shes the closest to Kate since she also has some prog leanings. Some mid career Joni is more "interesting" than her earlier stuff too. There are more but since those were already mentioned and I'm familiar with those ones.. I've been really into Jessica Pratts newest album lately, kind of folky stuff with psychedelic and bossa nova influences. Pollys last album was really singular too. Interesting songwriting even though it's a bit sparse. It needs the space and slight strangeness to let the lyrics shine though, which are a bit of a rabbit hole on their own.
