Listened to this a lot hanging out with buddies in high school. It was new, live, and included songs spanning their whole career so lots of value in it. I think they did a good job working with the orchestra. No Leaf Clover was my favorite. I don’t think I’ve listened to it since probably 2001 though.

S&M2 was such a piece of shit. It's just the same exact thing but less songs and a couple of orchestral pieces thrown in for some reason. The 2 or 3 new songs were actually good, why couldn't it ALL have been new songs(as in not performed on S&M1) . Lazy cunts.

My favorite part is where greasy metal dudes are hobnobbing with dudes in suits. I'm not a big fan of live albums or gimmick albums but Michael Kamen was good at it and Metallica did it better than most other bands that have tried.

Also I've been off of 4chan for like 2 years, is there something wrong with file uploading or did Hiromoot fuck something up?

James autotune can be distracting.
Other than that, I share the same boring opinion that it had too many Load/Reload songs.
I remember the DVD had the option of isolating the orchestral track, Call of Ktulu, The Thing That Should Not Be and For Whom the Bell Tolls are the best ones.

James vocals got autotuned the shit out of it. Listen closely to the verses on No Leaf Clover, I think it's the most noticeable example.
I know James can somehow sing in tune, but I guess it was too much of a task to keep up with an orchestra.

I don't remember the publication but Scott Stapp released a solo album in 2005 called "The Great Divide" and the magazine review said it was presumably named after the space between Stapp's ears. That's randomly popped up in my head over the last 20 years.

No Leaf Clover and -Human were both studio tracks they mimed for the DVD. Thats why they have a completely different mix than the rest of the album which itself is comprised of takes from a few different shows. I don't know if there's autotune on his voice or if he was just able to get better vocal takes in the studio. Auto-tune was a lot more obvious back then. I think its mostly just good studio takes with vocal effects on them.

It's pretty obvious, unless you're not familiar with autotune.
Pick any song where he holds a note for a long time, like the chorus on Bleeding Me, you'll notice these pitch corrections that sound unnatural.
You can also compare the vocal performance with Cunning Stunts to make it even ore obvious.

It’s one of the best rock/symphony collaborations ever, in my opinion. It’s one of my favorite things the band has ever done and still holds up today. Also, Minus Human is one of the best songs they’ve ever written. It’s an absolute fucking shame they don’t play it live. That songs crushes.

I was 13 when S&M came out. I wore the absolute fuck out of that DVD, rarely did it leave my player. It’s the only successful blend of symphonic metal/rock that exists. Metallica did not fuck around and it showed. Still one of my favorite things the band has ever done.

Good drinking sessions cranking this album.
S&M2 didn't nearly have the same impact, and Hetfield looked bloated and depressed.
1999/2000 was a good time.

Definitely late 90s he got into that crooner/oversinging/yodel phase which was lame.
You can also hear the autotune on S&M, its very apparent.

If you deconstruct the 5.1 mix, eliminate the vocal channel & you can hear the slight bleed of the OG vocals through the live recording. No Leaf Clover OG live vocals are squeaky & pitchy. He must've been back on the booze by '99, his voice was "fat".

>No Leaf Clover and -Human were both studio tracks they mimed for the DVD.
Wrong way round. They played those songs live at the concerts, but decided to re-record quite a lot of the parts in the studio for the CD and DVD release. Pretty much all the vocals as well as a bunch of guitars. Lars' drums and the orchestra remain from the live recording.
>I don't know if there's autotune on his voice or if he was just able to get better vocal takes in the studio.
There's a lot of autotune throughout S&M, and those songs are no exception.

why are you having a meltdown over being asked for proof? until you provide some, he doesn't use it. he was still a very capable singer in the late 90s. even nowadays where he clearly struggles on multiple songs that are in the higher registers he doesn't use it.

everybody can tell except for you and they provided proof based on the video with isolated vocals. Even the comments on that video agree too. He was a competent vocalist but it's hard to get good audio quality live and when you release stuff on an album you want it to sound as best as possible to increase sales, hence why you will use mixing tricks to make it sound as best as possible.
