Will Grande use her Wicked style vocals for her next album?

Surprised to see such a thread, but a pleasant surprise nonetheless.

They both were pretty good in the movie but I personally thought Cynthia Erivo had a better performance, although having better songs also helps. I don't know what the hell they were thinking with Defying Gravity though because they really ruined the flow of the song.

At the moment I'm listening to Miki Howard's discography, never did listen properly to its entirety. So far favourite track is Come Home to Me :

Her cover of Until You Come Back To Me is kinda mid but I never liked the original that much either, I think Luther Vandross' version along Superstar is much better.

I think it's time to talk about how Disco condemned many artist to irrelevancy. Look at Donna Summer: beautiful voice, in fact her slower version of Dim All The Lights could've been a timeless classic and yet nowadays absolutely relegated to the annals of history. Another example: Shalimar, nobody remembers them yet Howard Hewett's solo career still has some really good tracks and even went to make music with George Duke.

The soundtrack has a better version of Defying Gravity (without the pause in the middle)

It's "Shalamar", and it really all depends if the band artist moved from disco once the genre faded away. See Earth, Wind and Fire who continued producing hits long after and are still widely popular today.

>Cynthia Erivo
her performance was so great! i'm excited for the next movie. i wonder if Wicked has put her super mainstream yet. she's already popular, but Grande was more mainstream than her, but now that they're in two popular movies together and everyone knows Erivo's vocal chops, maybe she could become super mainstream if she has any desire to move in that direction

I know there's woman singers in rock that have extremely powerful vocals, why aren't they spammed and promoted by the labels as much as the pop stars? They can be popular, e.g. Lzzy Hale, but they're generally known by other rock fans instead of the general masses

Personally if I'm looking for women vocalists rock is definitely not the first place I'd go looking for and the community is generally unhelpful when asking for reccs. As for labels indeed, plants are a big problem today for discoverability and even worse, sometime gimping the potential of perfectly good artists by relegating them to a very narrow box.
