Ray stayed married to the girl he met in college for his entire life, so I don't think he was gay.

One thing I'd say about him, though, is he glosses over a lot of the tension in the band. I've heard Robbie Kreiger and John Densmore talk about it and it's pretty obvious that they were all unhappy with Jim becoming an alcoholic wreck, for obvious reasons and it was pretty much wrecking the band. There was a point where Jim passed out on stage and the rest of the band walked off for a while until he came around again.
