Do you think Roger Waters went crazy himself, or did he base all the recurring madness themes in his art around โle empathy for Sydโ?
I really doubt a narcissist like him would write albums about someone else
I think Wish You Were Here was Waters projecting what he wanted to be: the artistic martyr, the dead poet.
Some tracks that carry the same theme:
The Thin Ice
>if you should go skaiting on the thin ice of modern life
>dragging behind you the silent reproach of a million tear stained eyes
>don't be surprised when a crack in the ice appears under your feet
>you'll slip out of your depth and out of your mind
>with your fear flowing out behind you as you claw the thin ice
Brain Damage (needless to say)
Outside the Wall
>And when they've given you their all some stagger and fall
>After all it's not easy banging your heart against some mad bugger's wall
If
>If I go insane please don't put your wires in my brain
>And if I go insane will you still let me join in with the game?
Many people, primarily redditors, claim that he wrote all of those tracks "in memory of syd". But I think it's what I said. I think many of us can relate to that, I do at least.
I think roger may have been jealous that Syd was rock & roll and had that destiny, whereas Roger didn't fall apart. Still both brilliant minds and we're lucky to have their music.
I can reasonably assess that Waters has a cuckold fetish or similar. That's death drive. I'm sure he associates shame with pleasure. He writes plenty of songs about being alone, having people abandoning him (One of My Turns and many others).
Every single artist with the "dead poet" syndrome - let's call it- SURELY has a cuck fetish or at least some form of masochsim tied to their thanatos.
And I know why. The dude holds himself up so high, and tries to push his genius persona - which I'm not denying he is - but he cares so much about his image, that he needs the release of being put down.
Actually I don't know and I'm probably projecting.
