I have rss feeds of various music genre publications and occasionally think of looking at record label output directly but then I dont actually do it

any band of merit should know to be post internet. for 4 years i have been burning cd's of our tracks recorded with one mic in rehearsal and leaving them in weird spots like beer stores or thrift stores or skate parks or benches by the river all over town with nothing but a band name and email address. it is provocative and it works.

New as in newly formed or bands that are specifically new to you? In any case, it's really not that hard. You could look at any random lineup for a small show this weekend and find a couple of new bands. Whether or not you like them is a different problem altogether.
I'd also like to say that many people don't know how to get the best out of rateyourmusic and get hung up on irrelevant bs like the average ratings for popular albums or the comment boxes.

It's because you pirate all the music, so it doesn't get made for you anymore.

it's impossible to post new artists who don't already have a large following on this board without immediately being called a shill

this lmao, i remember i posted an oklou track once and someone said it sounded like ai music (????). This was before her new album had released so she wasn't "popular" yet. Then as soon as Choke Enough releases a ton of people on this board are obsessed with her, I swear it's got to be some online bandwagoning effect spurred by rym/pitchfork/whatever.

I've always wanted to do something like this, but with some interactivity exe or something, problem is no ones gonna really wanna launch a random exe burned onto a CD or usb and found on the ground. Still, the idea of making some sort of non pizza's Sad Satan-esque game with music and a link to more stuff would be a fun project.
