lol not familiar with hardcore punk at all, only listened to a few things like some minor threat, black flag. not super familiar with thrash or black metal though have gotten into some old school stuff relatively recently.

But was watching live shows of this hardcore punk band called scowl before they started doing poppy stuff.

And I realized ... even though they are hardcore punk, if this was a bunch of dudes in all black and long hair i would have just thought this was like thrash or even black metal in some bits. Makes me realize I cant really tell the difference between hardcore punk and metal just by sound alone. Just adds evidence to fact there isn't really genres. There isn't really metal or punk. Its just loud rock. Some is slower, some faster, some noisier, some poppier. A lot of the differences are arbitrary aesthetics or ideology or lyrical themes.
