Alright time for me to go through Rush. Where do I stop? From skimming the archives it seems like I'd want to stop at Power Windows but I dunno, maybe it's a bit before or after.

>>126803534The problem with guys like Govan and Minnemann is that they don't like to be constrained or told what to play. Not to mention that both of them would fuck off to go perform Aristocrats wank leaving Wilson to find replacements on certain legs of the Raven and HCE tours, which after the latter I think both parties were fed up with each other and the relationship was over at that point. I recall Marco posting some kind of passive aggressive rant around that time frame bashing Wilson.

>>126808685Well this one at least looks like it is using technology to achieve a specific goal so it's okay with me
I'm wondering if it's a similar pattern to something like McCartney II or George Harrison's Electronic Sounds, like you have a seasoned artist trying new technology but in a kind of fiddling, aimless way. Come think of it, synths opened the floodgates of slop too
>>126807638I'm lenient towards this because the backbone of the video was still actually recorded and edited. AI was simply used for the constantly changing procedurally generated textures; which is almost the point and not really replicable manually.
Still kind of a boring concept though.
>>126808235I can tolerate the first couple because itยดs not even remotely trying to pretend it's anything but what it is.
Still slop.
>>126807638>literal AI slopThat's not what AI slop means you retard, this is a video directed, recorded, and edited by actual humans that only uses AI to add some actually pretty neat abstract effects that you probably wouldn't be able to replicate without the generative element. There's literally nothing wrong with this.
>>126798947never got the hype for this album at all. it all sounds decent but way too safe for a conceptual prog album

Anything by Steve W*lson is trash
I prefer the studio version of The Knife. The low note at 6:53 is the nastiest thing they ever put on record and I love it. They played the song too clean and flashy live.

The fact that so many books still name Genesis as "the greatest or most significant or most influential" Prog band ever only tells you how far Prog still is from becoming a serious art. Pop critics have long recognized that the greatest Pop musicians of all time are Drake, Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, who were not the most famous or richest or best sellers of their times, let alone of all time. Renaissance critics rank the highly controversial William Byrd over Renaissance musicians who were highly popular in courts around Eurasia. Prog critics, instead, are still blinded by commercial success. Genesis sold more than anyone else (true, by the way), therefore they must have been the greatest. Pop critics grow up listening to a lot of Pop music of the past, Renaissance critics grow up listening to a lot of Baroque music of the past. Prog critics are often somewhat ignorant of the prog music of the past, they know the best sellers.
>>126835811neither mike nor tony would let me lick their assholes
The fact that so many books still name King Crimson as "the greatest or most significant or most influential" prog band ever only tells you how far prog rock still is from becoming a serious commercial Entertainment product. Jazz critics have long recognized that the greatest jazz musicians of all time are Kenny G, Louis Armstrong & Keith Jarrett, who were the most famous and richest and best sellers of their times, and probably of all time. Classical critics rank the barely controversial Pachelbel over classical more controversial musicians who never sold much. Prog critics, instead, are still blinded by hate for commercial success. King Crimson sold less than anyone else (true, by the way), therefore they must have been the greatest. Jazz critics grow up listening to a lot of best selling jazz music of the past, classical critics grow up listening to a lot of the best selling classical music of the past. Prog critics are often totally ignorant of the commercial Prog music of the past, they don't even know the best sellers.

Why is Japan the only Asian country that makes good music? Yes, you can find a few bands here and there from other Asian countries, but Japan blows them out of the water.

>>126858079Every once in a while, Metal Blade Records gets a really high temperature and in their delusion accidentally sign a band that plays light progressive pop. This is EXACTLY what happened when they signed Cannibal Corpse, but luckily that band was kind enough to offer to change their sound. But then it happened AGAIN! Spock's Beard was the result. Named after an obscure Star Trek episode or movie or Leonard Nimoy album or some CRAP, the band was led by the Morse Brothers, who spoke to each other only in a special "Morse Code." HAHAHHAH!!!HA HAHAHAHAHAH! ! ! HAHAHAHAH HHOOOHOHOHOHO!!HOHH!OOHHOOO!OOOOOOOOOOO! No, but let's get back to my PowerPoint presentation. Spock's Beard sound like Yes, but with a mid-80s pop singer singing for them. Trevor Rabin? No no no, I mean like John Waite or John Parr or Rick Springfield. A real big "Look at me SIIIING, little girl!" voice that can come across as pretty corny when he's trying too hard to be taken seriously. And the Yes thing is not limited to one period in Yes history. At their best, Spock's Beard mix the booming bass/high-pitched organ sound of early Yes with the long as heck progressive music Yes with the 80s radio-friendly rock Yes right on through to their present day smooth beautiful moody relaxed dense pop music. Unfortunately, at their worst, Spock's Beard has a penchant for writing overdramatic "aims-too-high-and-misses" Styx-style "progressive" material. Even more unfortunately, the band's leader/singer/songwriter Neal Morse quit the band in late 2002 because God told him to. This actually occurred only a few weeks after I interviewed him for this very same site! (www.markprindle.com!) Check it out! He TOTALLY could have given me an exclusive sneak peek advance on his plans to quit, but just like a Christian, he FUCKED ME UP THE ASS!!!!! The rest of Spock's Beard decided to continue without Neal, figuring that surely their fans were never into the band because of the songwriting and vocals.
